Perry preps to host LaGrange

With a state-championship
legacy that dates back to
the 19205,
LaGrange
High School
knows
something
about win

Pardue, the
coach who’s
LaG range at
Perry, Friday,

kept that tradition alive
in the 21st Century with
three state championships,
says it’s all about getting
good players, maintaining a
coaching staff and living in
a town that doesn’t get too
high or too low over any one
result.
Perry High opens the 2007
GHSA Class AAA state play
offs against those LaGrange
Grangers that finished third
in Region 2-AAA with a
record of 8-2. 2-AAA is an
11-team region that isn’t
subdivided, so the entire
regular season consists of
region games. LaGrange’s
two losses came to Carver-
Columbus and Shaw, but the
Grangers came close to a
third loss last weekend to its
county rival Troup High at
Callaway Stadium.
LaGrange had its share
of mistakes in this game,
including a lost fumble that
gave Troup its first score to
cut a 10-0 lead down to three
at halftime. The Grangers
got back up by 10 only to
give up a 51-yard touchdown
pass on third-and-long and
another after a fumbled
punt in the fourth quarter.
LaGrange would score the
game-winner late, but still
needed an interception in
the end zone to seal it after
Troup had a 60-yard pass
play on a 4th-and-17.
“That’s always a big rival
ry,” said Pardue in a phone
interview Monday with the
Houston Home Journal. “We

From staff reports
According to figures
released by the Georgia
High School Association
Friday afternoon, all three
Warner Robins high schools
will reside in the same clas
sification for a two-year
stretch beginning in the
fall of 2008.
The 2008-2010 reclassifi
cation numbers show that
Houston County High,
Warner Robins High and
Northside High all fall in
the state !s highest clas
sification, which is Class
AAAAA. Houston and
Warner Robins were placed
in 5A for the current two
year span that began in the >
fall of 2006 while Northside
stayed in Class AAAA.
The GHSA changed the
procedure for making the
new classifications, which
are based on a school’s full
time enrollment count. For
a public school, the FTE is
an average of that school’s
spring 2007 count and fall
2007 count.
A total of 66 schools
fell in the 5A classifica
tion, and all have an FTE
average of 1,850 students

Hornets wrap up winning year
From staff reports
Sherwood was known as
a team that faded down the
stretch. Friday at Westfield
on the Hornets’ Senior
Night, that didn’t turn out
to be the case.
The Eagles scored six
points in the third quarter
and a whopping 26 in the
fourth. The good news for
the Westfield faithful was
the Hornets, who scored 14
points in the first quarter
and seven in the second to
take a 21-0 halftime lead,
scored 20 of their own in
that final 12 minutes en
route to a 41-26 win.
