Bowman flew 36 combat missions against the German Luftwaffe escort ing American bombers to and from their targets during the later part of World War 11. The Tuskegee Airmen trained at an isolated and segregated training complex near the town of Tuskegee, Ala., and earned a distinguished combat record flying P-40, P-47 and P-51 aircraft.
