This week in HHJ history: 30 years ago: A poll of Interstate 75 travel taken at Perry and Calhoun by the Georgia Department of Transportation has traffic at its highest levels ever - reportedly more than both of the two years prior. The GDOT found that on an average day 12,443 vehicles passed the observation point. New to the arsenal HOT: Ni law closures over holiday weekend Special to the Journal The Georgia Department of Transportation announced this past week that there will be no lane closures on inter states or state routes this Thanksgiving weekend. “Lane closures will not be allowed over the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Kimberly Larson, DOT communications specialist. “Lane closures on interstates and state routes for construction are prohibited from 5 a.m. Wednesday (today) until midnight Sunday. On Friday at approximately 4:40 p.m., Ronald William Free, 41 years of age, of a Manchester Lane address in Byron, was arrested without incident and charged in the murder.
