HOUSTON HOME JOURNAL BROWN Front page iB game 28-6 to advance to the state quarterfinals. This Rams fan sent in his note of congratulations to the Panthers with the hopes that one day these two schools will meet again on the field of play. I certainly wish to see that - and even a Perry-Troup rematch on the baseball field - as well, hopefully under better cir cumstances for both sides. Let us also remember that the entire Northside High community all season has dealt with the loss of Chris Johnson back in the summer. Johnson fought a long and courageous battle against leukemia and never was forgotten on the Eagles’ sidelines. On a lighter note, there is some good news coming out of Kansas involving a former Warner Robins High School football player. Actually, the real good news may come out of Utah. It’s this week end (Saturday, Dec. 1) that Butler Community College, with former Demon corner back Maurice Gray, plays in something called the Top of the Mountain Bowl in Salt Lake City for the ‘national championship’ of junior col lege football. Butler is ranked No. 2, and the opposition is of course No. 1 in the NJCAA. It’s a school called Snow College. Snow, Utah, mountains, it’s too easy. SWIMMING From page iB of the high school events, the 200 yard Medley Relay, 200 yard Free relay and the 400 yard Free Relay. Top scorers for Warner Robins were returning state swimmers, senior captain Anne Culpepper and Erik Hanson, each with 16 pts. They were also joined by captain Jackson Smith who also earned 16 pts. These three joined with Rachel Sundry to earn 24 pts in the Co-ed 200 yard Free Relay. Also, the boys Backstroke relay of Stephen Persson, Paul Poorman, Smith and Hanson placed fifth to add 28 MACON REGIONAL Help sol ve A Crime 742-2330 • 1-877-68 CRIME Rewards of up to s l,ooo - Remain Anonymous! He is still in communica tion with his high school coach Bryan Way. According to Way, Gray has some sig nificant transfer offers with his choices narrowed down to Kansas, Oklahoma State and South Florida. This is a good time for another one of those local college sports updates. Josh Collier and his Wofford football teammates stayed alive in the NCAA Division I championship playoffs last weekend by beating previ ously unbeaten Montana in Montana 23-22. The former Houston County High quar terback threw a fourth-quar ter touchdown pass in the game to put Wofford ahead, but Montana answered with a scoring drive, which was again answered by Wofford. Today (Dec. 1), Collier’s team gets to play at home in South Carolina against Richmond. It was Richmond that eliminated Eastern Kentucky and former Northside lineman Michael Howard in the first round. Getting back to Houston County High, defensive end Kyle Moore no longer leads Southern California in interceptions. Could be a reason the Trojans are in a position to play in the cov eted Rose Bowl. I hear this BCS game has some interest in Georgia (that is, should Ohio State not be available), points to the team’s score. And, the girls 200 yard Backstroke Relay earned 24 points with Sundry, Jamie Smith, Brittani Wharton and Culpepper. Sophomore Paul Poorman also had an impressive outing, Hawkins said, with his 500 Freestyle as he begins the hunt for a state qualifying time. The boys 200 yard Free Relay also shows great promise, Hawkins added, with their improvement by several seconds over last year’s time. Junior Courtnie Blakely and sophomore Andrew Richey both suc ceeded in dropping more than 63 seconds in their events. “This was an inspiring Kurt Foster - Violation of Probation State Court, Violation of Probation Superior Court. With so much important football news going on right now, it. can be easy to forget that basketball at all levels are getting things cranked up for a new season. The college campaign gets going a few weeks sooner than the high schools. With that in mind, there is some signifi cant news to report from the hardwood about some local talent. Pierre Miller of Warner Robins High is getting his playing time in as a fresh man at Presbyterian College. As of Wednesday, Nov. 28, he had two starts in seven games for the Blue Hose and led the team in total assists with 22. Miller is also shoot ing 36 percent in 3-point ers. This is Presbyterian’s first basketball season in Division I, and some of those seven games were against Nebraska, New Mexico and Clemson. Kittery Maine, also from Warner Robins High, is no longer the tallest tree in the forest. The 6-4 for mer Demonette now plays for Liberty University with one 6-5 teammate from Lithuania and a set of 6-3 triplets from Ohio. Maine, through Nov. 28, had five games under her belt, grabbed nine total rebounds and made both of her field goal tries. If it were me, I’d quit while I was at 100 per cent for my career. season opener,” she said. “Every swimmer, and I do mean every swimmer, improved his or her times by swimming season bests at the meet. Of course it is not unusual to have a best time ... but for everyone to do this is an encouraging fact. We have been concentrating on strokes and turns as we pre pare to compete on Saturday (today) in Albany at the Lee County Invitational.” Hawkins added the team is looking towards several newcomers to compete in the events vacated by graduated seniors Abigail Cunningham and Shannon Sulik. Both of these girls were mainstays in the 100 yard Back and 100 yard Fly, she said. r, % , * : Christopher Holder - Arrest Order Failure to Appear. LKL: 124 Windsor Dr., Warner Robins Taquez M. The girls stuck with it, and we had a great season, one of the best we’ve had.” That Northside club did suffer some graduation losses, one of those losses affecting the Wilson household. Janay Wilson (the coach’s daugh ter) was a college signee at guard, and her fellow senior contributor was post player Brittany Holder. Then again, last year’s Lady Eagles were trying to recover from even more senior losses to the col lege level, including Lekiesha Levi. “Those were huge losses,” said the coach Wilson. “I think we are going to have some kids who will step up in their spot, just like the year before. Janay and Brittany stepped up (last year). So I’m expecting these younger girls will also step up. “The biggest thing is that you have a system in place. The system stays the same even though the kids are new at it. So it’s just a redoing of what we’ve been doing all the time. They’re just getting better at it.” Wilson keeps her play ers busy during the off-sea son with June being a par ticularly active month. She said they must have played between 20 and 30 games in the summer. “That’s giving them an DONATE TO GOODWILL. ♦ 2209 Moody Road ♦ 115 Margie Drive J ♦ 1355 Sam Nunn Blvd 1 ♦ Galleria Mall - 2922 Watson Blvd M www.goodwillworks.org m lob at * amß f RUHWJ^IKI^ celebrate ' | '"U your little 0 one's first i Christmas with this .fLJf? unique affordable '3%'P 1 ML teeepsatee that runs • Aw Saturday, x>to. 22, Q.OOJ "HI¥V rlLj( h:..^ ■ * /j— ' m w 1* & > s ... . t »• L- m Ptthitiked itifiwmmtW * t'fcme pwti cteilrh Baby’s Full Name: Baby’s Date of Birth: Parent’s Name(s): Noil-published unite rial: Purchaser’s Name: Daytime Phone: otAk tNe form. ovt dref off or feme's .Jjflrfl «lowo with & s3Q.c>o shcefe/mowey order tot pfmtsitet Pome Hotmtal All photos will be available for pick-up at our Perry office after January 2, 2008, or include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for photo return. It pays off in a game. There are some tense moments in games, and hopefully this will keep us together.” As for the new Lady Eagle team looking to match - if not exceed - last year’s accomplishments, Wilson said it’s a quick group with some underclassmen who earned a lot of playing expe rience last season. Those key players are Tai Brown, a 5-11 sophomore; Ladarria Clark, another sophomore at guard; Leah Danley, a junior guard; Arnishka Nelson, a 5- 7 senior; and Josie Toliver, a 5-11 senior. “We still have a lot of tal ent,” said Wilson, whose senior class also includes Brittnie Henderson, Karrisa Lewis and Rasheena Porter. “The biggest obstacle is hav ing somebody step up to real ly be a leader, calm things down when it gets real pan icky, the crowd is yelling at ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY DECEMBER 12, 2007, BY SPM ATTN: FIRST CHRISTMAS ±2± o WB£hiyugt£i&h, .street. The Lady Eagles did fall short one time in gaining a goal, and that’s winning the region championship, but recovered to make the long run in the state tournament. “You have to set (expecta tions) high for them to play,” said Wilson. “If you don’t expect much out of them, they won’t give you much.
