They were not old enough to play on a team yet and so I had to keep them “cor ralled” during Tully’s ball games. That was not an easy job, so I welcomed any distraction that would keep them entertained. One spring day, after a very heavy rain, that dis traction materialized as a very large, and very messy mud puddle in the bottom of a ditch. While the game was being played, first one, then each of the four boys discov ered that stomping around in the puddle was great fun. As usual the fun began to escalate and by the end of the ballgame, the boys were standing in line at one end of the puddle and taking turns running and sliding head first through the water and mud on their bellies. I was entertained by watching the other parents grab their children as they tried to break away and join the boys in their rollicking fun. The boys are all old enough to play sports them selves and I can now be entertained by the action on the field. Many times that action has proven to be quite comical. One of those times was when Hunter was playing baseball. It was his turn to bat and the catcher had a nasty habit of heckling the players as they each took a turn to bat. Hunter ignored the catcher for as long as he could and when he could not stand the heckling "^QTFiz" Hank, Henry, Heisman and New Hampshire hopefuls Literary Quiz What do Hank Morgan and Henry DeTamble have in common? Needless to say, the catcher did not have anything else to say after that and the game pro ceeded in peace. Also, at the first out of-town baseball tourna ment Hunter ever played, he thought he should introduce himself to the opposing team mem bers. After his first hit, he arrived at first base, stuck out his h and to shake, and told the first base man, “Hi, my name is Hunter Lineberger, and I am in second grade at Morningside Elementary”. When Hunter was not on the field he was a con cession stand “groupie”. He would loiter around the concession stand ask ing for money. One prof itable day, he garnered nachos, popcorn, candy, a drink, AND change in his pocket, even though he had arrived at the ball field with no money. He obviously has the mak ings of a great politician. The boys also love watching sporting events of all kinds, so they were thrilled to attend a hock ey game with a friend. After arriving home from the game I asked them if they enjoyed the hockey game and Luke said, “Yeah, I want to play hockey when I grow up”. I asked, “You do? Why”. He replied, “So I can beat the crap out of somebody”. So, if you see us at the ball field someday, come over and visit. I’m sure that we will have many more adventures to share. Blanchard A Christmas gift from Perry Players By Charlotte Perkins Journal Staff Writer The Perry Players are bringing a beloved drama to life for the Christmas season. The play, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” tugs at the emotions from the outset. The play, adapted from Frank Capra’s film classic, is a challenging one and Linda Deibert clearly pulled it together with simple sets and the spotlight on good acting. Ryan McCarty gives an outstanding performance as the central character, Harry Bailey, a young man who has made countless sacrifices for others, and is faced with a looming financial crisis. McCarty, who is on stage in every scene, never fails his audience. Samuel Bowers is charming as a desperaate guardian angel, and Todd Wilson is splendidly wicked as the town’s power broker who is determined to destroy the one business he doesn’t own. Amber Seabolt is a sweet and convincing love interst as Mary Bailey, and the large cast includes veteran actors as well as children. As part of this year’s Christmas at the Crossroads, the Perry Players are urging the public to make this a “Dinner and Theatre” experience by patronizing Leta’s and The Swanson, and then walking over to the play.
