Northside students perform “Pippin”, which recently won them state honors.
Northside wins state one-act competition

Northside High School
won first place at the Georgia
High School Association
state one-act play competi
tion for its performance of
“Pippin”. Northside placed
first in the Class AAAA
competition held Nov. 24 at
Valdosta High School.
Director Brian Barnett
and Assistant Director Jenny
Carroll led Northside to its
13th state title, the most of
any single high school in the
state.
Also, cast member Sam
Raffield, a senior, was
named Best Actor at both
the region and state compe
titions for his portrayal of
King Charlemagne. Raffield

Huntington Middle
School and Quail Run
Elementary School have
been named 2007 Georgia
Schools of Excellence in
Student Achievement. State
Superintendent of Schools
Kathy Cox announced 23
Schools of Excellence this
past week.
Huntington Middle was
named a School of Excellence
for making the greatest
gains in student achieve
ment in reading and math
ematics. Over three school
years, scores improved 6.37
percent in reading and 18.74
percent in mathematics.
Principal Gwendolyn
Taylor commented, “This
is an honor for the entire
Huntington family. Our ded
icated staff members work
hard toward our vision to
become a learning institute
where high achievement and
the pursuit of excellence can
be seen and felt in every
classroom, eveiy day.
“We set high expectations
for our students, and they
know we care about them.
I am proud to lead a school
where the faculty and staff
are committed, students
work hard and are respect
ful, parents are involved,
and the community is will
ing to share resources. In
1993 while teaching at Bert
Rumble Middle, I remem
ber the school receiving this
award and again in 1999
when I served as principal.
