Macon. White had eight
points in the second half just
from offensive rebounds.
John Peake had some kind
of hand in the points for
Westfield in an opening 10-
2 run. He had three steals,
a stick-back basket and an
assist to Rust, who had a sec
ond basket on the offensive
glass. Rust even added an
assist to Amrit. Revis’ drive
to the basket for two ended
the quarter with Westfield
up 16-10.
Amrit blocked a shot in
those first eight minutes,
and James Wurster, a fresh
man forward, had two steals.
Wurster scored on a drive
to keep Westfield up by six
early in the second period.
The Hornets, that quick pace
starting to catch up, missed
three good scoring opportu
nities until Amrit converted
in the paint (22-18).
Steven Peake made his
impact off the bench with
a third-chance score. The
second chance was created
when Keenan Malone fol
lowed and got back his 3-
point try.
Point guard Casey Young’s
‘thread-the-needle’ pass to
John Peake put the Hornets
up five, 26-21.

White and a kind roll on a

an unforced turnover, the

The White Show dominat
ed the early portion of the
third quarter as he not only
scored on the boards, but
from his own steal and post
ing up inside. With his sec
ond stick-back of the period,
the Vikings led 36-30.
FPD’s 3-pointer made
from a corner had the score
at 39-35. But it was all
Westfield until the buzzer
with two key baskets com
ing from Steven Peake. He
not only put back on offen
sive rebound but also ran
the pick-and-roll with John
Peake. John Peake did much
more with his own stick
back and baskets assisted by
Young.
The Hornets took a 44-39
lead into the fourth quarter
and built it up to 12, 55-
43. Wurster and Rust both
took the ball inside to score
on White, and Steven Peake
offered an assist to Young.
But White and the rest
of his Viking teammates
were still to grab offensive
rebounds. As Amrit fouled
out at 4:41 to play, FPD
scored three times on the
glass and got within three,
57-54.

FPD GIRLS 41,
WESTFIELD 38
Facing two girls players
from First Presbyterian who
stand 6-1, and shooting only
11-for-59 from the field,
the Westfield girls basket
ball team was still poised
to knock off the GISA top
ranked Vikings at home
Tuesday.
In fact, Jeff Eubanks and
the Lady Hornets were tied
with FPD in the fourth quar
ter when not only did they
give up a 3-point basket, but
also fouled the open shooter
for what was a four-point
game-deciding swing for the
visitors.
“We had 18 offensive
rebounds, but just couldn’t
score,” said Eubanks. “We
only had 13 turnovers,
which is great. But if we
could have only had a couple
of breaks.”
Eubanks said an example
of his team’s shooting woes
came for the usually on-tar
get Hanna Jones.
But he said Jones, who
has had a broken thumb in
the past, had that old injury
re-aggravated during the
game. She would score nine
points.
The Lady Hornet went
13-for-19 at the foul line.
Clark, another sophomore,
scored eight.
The Lady Eagles, a AAAA
semifinalist last year, took
the game to the bigger Lady
Bears from the beginning,
and though they didn’t
have much success on the
offensive boards, Casaundra
Wilson’s girls didn’t allow
many second shots to Sid
Baxley’s home team.
In fact, Northside started
the game on a 5-0 run when
5-7 senior Arnishka Nelson
followed in a missed 3-point
er from the weak side. The
visitors also blocked one of
Williams’ trademark out
let passes. Brown made a
3-pointer, and the opening
quarter ended with the Lady
Eagles leading 7-6.
It would be a first half of
turnovers - about 10 steals
from both teams combined
- and lead changes, six in the
second quarter. Farr ah Lewis
converted on a rare second
chance shot for Houston,
which took command early at
10-7. Northside would break
the press and get a Chan
Fann basket on a ball saved
from going out of bounds in
a 6-0 run.
Late in the half, the
Lady Bears countered a 3-
pointer from senior Lady
Eagle Brittnie Henderson
with 7-of-10 foul shooting.
Northside still owned the
lead, still by one, 20-19, at
halftime.
The second half didn’t
have quite the turnovers as
the first, but Northside’s
shooting did not improve
place. Team members were
Jackson Smith, Yusuf Uddin,
Richard Skillen, Stephen
Persson, Jordan Carhuff,
Adam Kingsley, Michael
Gregory, and Stanley
Jackson.

Northside didn’t score from

drew a foul.
