Eagle Springs Elementary celebrated International
Literacy Day recently. According to a release, three par
ent volunteers brought items from their native countries
to share with the students. They shared information
on the language, culture, currency, food, clothing, and
other interesting facts. The parents volunteered the
entire day to speak to each grade level. Mrs. Abdulla
from Jordan, Mrs. Morales from Guatemala and Mrs.
Banit from India shared their experiences as a child
growing up in another culture to help students learn
about the diversity found in the United States. Also,
to help celebrate, the school nutrition program served
international cuisine from Italy, Mexico and Japan.

The first grade classes of Hilltop Elementary celebrated
Thanksgiving by having a feast of their own. After
studying about the pilgrims and their voyage to the new
world, the students reenacted the first Thanksgiving.
With the help of parents, the students brought in food
similar to what the Pilgrims and Indians feasted on.
The feast, according to a release was a great success.
