Northside, the two finished
the first quarter tied at 8.
But, Perry then outscored
the Eagles 19-9 in the sec
ond to lead at the break 27-
17. Northside closed the gap
with an 18-13 advantage in
the third - it was 40-35 at
that point - and even tied
it at 43 about three min
utes into the third. But the
Panthers avoided the rally
by outscoring Northside 24-
12 - 27-20 for the quarter
- down the stretch.
They were led by Kameron
Felder and Jones, each of
which had 13, as well as
Hubbard who again had 12.
Felder also had three 3-point
ers. Northside was led by
Pierre Solomon, who had 16,
Demario Black with 14.

level ... and still not get
everybody in. Even when the
college season was winding
down, one more name jumped
out of my memory banks.
Checking out what may have
gone down concerning this
particular player, I find that
he may have had the best
season of anyone who calls
Houston County home.
He’s Ferlando Williams,
formerly of Northside High
and Georgia Military College.'
In 2006, I met Williams and
did a story about his trans
fer to Youngstown State in
Ohio.
At Youngstown, Williams
sat out the 2006 season as
a redshirt. He was back on
the field this past fall for his
junior campaign, and he led
the Penguins in four offen
sive categories. It’s really
hard, though, to determine
what position he played, for
Williams ran the football,
caught the football and even
threw it a few times.
(Nope, no defensive statis
tics or field goals made).
Here’s the Williams run
down: He ran for 464 yards
and nine touchdowns. He led
Youngstown in catches with
42 and receiving yards with
499. With two touchdowns
scored through the air,
Williams tied for the team
lead in total TD’s with 11.
When you factor in 90 yards
in kickoff returns, he led the
Penguins in all-purpose yards
with 1,053.
So, what do they think
about Williams’ contribu
tions at YSU, and what’s the
outlook for his senior season?
No need to speculate, for
- through a special request
- offensive coordinator Brian
Wright provided these com
ments to the Home Journal:
“Last year he brought
some leadership and some
toughness to our group. He
win of the year. That turned
out to be the Eagles, the
difference really being the
second quarter for them. If
not for the fact they had
out-scored Jones County 27-
12 during that span, they
would not have even been in
a position to win. As it stood,
thanks to the fact Jones
County out-scored Northside
26-15 in the first quarter,
that left the Eagles down by
a point, 43-42 at the half.
The two netted 17 apiece
in the third before Northside
then edged Jones County 19-
16 in the final eight minutes.
The Eagles were led by Gregg
Fields, who had 17 points
- nine of which came off the
3-pointer and Kenya Ward,
who also had 17. Delium
Mitchell and DeMario Black
also scored in double digits
and finished with 10.
NORTHSIDE girls 46,
JONES COUNTY 36
LADY EAGLES 61, PERRY 38
Northside’s girls had some
to-little trouble picking up a
sweep in weekend action. In
beating Jones County Friday,
is a guy who has trained
himself to be a good wide
receiver. He played a lot of
things in junior college. He
really had to work to catch a
ball, and throughout the sea
son I don’t think he had one
dropped ball. That helped us
considerably at wide receiv
er.
“He’s a threat at catching
the ball. He is a threat at
running the ball. He showed
a couple of times - and hope
fully will a few more times
this year - maybe he’s a
threat to throw it down the
field. So when he’s in the
game at quarterback he’s not
so one-dimensional.
“He’s a heady player back
there. He comes in and stud
ies the game, learns the
game, learns whatever we
are going to do with him. He
is as eager to block and help
his teammates, as he is to get
the ball.
“I would guess that this
year we will try to do a lot
of the same things. I would
think there will be more
guarantees that he’s going
to touch the ball. When you
play wide receiver we can
only throw it to you, and it
has to be a process of pro
tection, the quarterback has
to throw it out there and
you have to catch it. In the
backfield there’s a few more
guarantees, so I think we
have to try to find some more
guarantees.”
Two years ago it was Willie
Ried. Last year it was Chansi
Stuckey. So who is the county
product to look out for in
terms of the 2008 National
Football League draft?
A lot of the players I talked
about during the season were
underclassmen and should
be back in college ball this
coming season. There are a
few seniors of note, and one
who does appear on the fists
of pro prospects is Florida
State safety Roger Williams
(Northside).
the Lady Eagles got off to
a slow start, in fact trailing
7-3 after one. But Northside
found its stride in the second
quarter, outscoring Jones
County 22-11 and taking a
25-20 lead into the locker
room. Jones County won the
battle in the third, 11-10, but
Northside tipped the scales
in its direction in fourth with
an 11-9 advantage.
Tai Brown was the Lady
Eagles’ leading scorer with
19. She also had three 3-
pointers.
Against Perry at home
Saturday, Northside led 13-
6 after one and 38-9 at the
break. The Lady Panthers
outscored the Lady Eagles
17-8 in the final quarter but
were outscored 15-12 in the
third.
Brown against finished
with 19 to lead all scorers.
Chan Sann also had 11. Kim
Burgess led Perry with 11,
while Laylay Roundtree and
Shay Newberry each had 10.

Williams ended his
Seminole career with 10
tackles against Kentucky in
the Music City Bowl. That
put him over 200 - 205 to be
exact - in career tackles to go
with six interceptions.
He could be a long shot,
though, for the NFL. Scott

What’s that? We still have
