class with great students who participat
ed in the ten month long program. Fifteen
Juniors from Perry and Westfield High
School were selected and learned what it
took to make a community a place where
people want to work, live and play.
In May of 2007, the first Sam Nunn
Citizenship was awarded to Kelly Frank
lin from The Westfield Schools and Lizzie
Conner from Perry Middle School for their
outstanding leadership and commitment
to middle Georgia and it’s citizens. They
each received a plaque, SIOO cash award,
and a perpetual plaque with their names
will be hung in the Perry Welcome Center
above the Sam Nunn Display case. The
Sam Nunn Citizenship Award recognizes
a middle school student and a high school
student for their community service.
They had to complete an application and
write a 250 - 500 word essay on why citi
zens are important to a community.
A very exciting new scholarship was
brought before this committee by the
Tampa Bay Foundation in honor of Frank
& Betty Estes. The committee has now
set in place a scholarship committee and
have determined that four SSOOO scholar
ships will be awarded to graduates from
Houston county schools showing financial
need. The scholarships can be used for
any higher education and they can reap
ply for up to four years. The committee
put in many long hours working out the
details but feel very fortunate to be able
to award this kind of financial assistant
to a deserving student who is trying to
further their education.
GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS
Chair: Amy Green
The purpose of this committee is to fa
cilitate productive relationships between
the Chamber and governing agencies.
Even though this was not an election year,
the committee continued to remain busy.
The first event that this committee was
responsible for was the Houston County
Legislative Luncheon held in Atlanta
ever year. This is an event that is done
jointly with the Warner Robins Chamber
of Commerce. During this luncheon the
chambers went over their joint Business
Legislative Agenda with the Houston
County Delegation.
After the state legislative session was
over, the committee partnered with the
Warner Robins Chamber to host the
Houston County Legislative Appreciation
Reception. This is the fifth year that the
Perry Chamber has held this event with
the last three years being done jointly
with the Warner Robins Chamber. This is
a small token to show our appreciation for
the hard work and dedication of Houston
County’s Legislative Delegation.
The highlight of the year was host

nal Luncheon. This is the fourth year in

and there was a record crowd of over 1400

attendance. Many companies bought an

an exciting day as Senator Johnny Isak
