Northside girls advance at state

Brett Hardy’s sentiments after
Friday’s Perry-Jordan state basket

up in one state

“I’m tired of com

Perry. It was the third time in the
last four years that Perry lost a state
playoff game by four points or less
(70-68 to Spencer in 2006, second
round; and 56-52 to Crisp County in
2005, first round).
Certain aspects of the match-up fell
in Perry’s favor, though, as Jordan -
undefeated all season until the semi
finals of the Region 2-AAA tourna
ment - had to feel that Feb. 22 was
a sure home game for the opening
round. But the Red Jackets lost to
Carver High in that semifinals and
had to settle for that region’s No.
3 seed. With the Panthers finished
second in Region 4-AAA, Jordan had
to travel through Friday’s stormy
weather to get to Perry’s gym.
Hardy’s Panthers also kept the
Red Jackets from playing their type
of game, which at several times this
season resulted in 100 points on
the scoreboard. That didn’t happen
Friday with hard all-out effort on
defense from start to finish by Perry,
an effort that almost pulled out the
win in the closing seconds.
“I don’t think they’ve been defend
ed like that all year,” said Hardy.
“It’s hard to score 100 points when
you’re defended like that.”
The loud and excited crowd - split
almost evenly with supporters of
both teams - saw a thrilling last
minute. Perry didn’t have many
turnovers in the fourth quarter, but
Jordan used one with just under
a minute to go to take a five-point
