HHJ history
50 years ago:
Oops. The Houston Home
Journal sends out this message
to county residents: “We’ll pay 25
cents each for th May 15 issue of
the Houston Home Journal. We
have sold, used and otherwise dis
posed of all of our copies and need
five copies badly."
30 years ago:
Then Police Chief B.E. Dennard
warns of a “slim flam" targeting
the elderly. The chief said several
cases had been reported in which
a person ‘flashing loads of money"
approached senior citizens with
promises to: “get-rich quick.”
10 years ago:
Despite studies, hiring of an
architect and a judge ruling, the
location of the county courthouse
- already slated for Perry Parkway
- suddenly becomes an issue.
Investors make it that way when
they come out of the woodwork
with offers of free land, et cetera.

CORRECTIONS: In
Saturday’s story regarding
“Remembrance Way”, it should
have read that Jim Moody
wanted to name the stretch
of road “Memory Lane” ver
sus “Remembrance Way” - it
IS named Remembrance Way
- but was told by the 911 Center
that Memory Lane already exist
ed elsewhere in the county.
• Here’s a correction 30 years
in the making! In Saturday's “HHJ
history” we referenced a news
paper article stating that then
Warner Robins Police Chief Billy
Hunter had submitted a request
to the Board of Education to
have four prisoners speak at
Northside High School. Hunter,
Monday, said he never saw that
story 30 years ago, but he did
Saturday. And, he said it’s not
true. He said he vaguely remem
bers a request from a teacher for
a “prisoner" to go and speak but
he said if it was submitted to the
board, it wasn’t by him, nor with
his endorsement.
