50 years ago:
Talk about leaving a calling card.
The Houston County Sheriff's
Office responded to a break-in at
the dance hall at Houston Lake.
No money was reportedly missing
but 36 records records were. Lo
and behold what did law enforce
ment officials find when they came
to investigate: One of the perpetra
tors - three were eventually arrest
ed - had left his base identification
card, complete with picture, on
the floor.
30 years ago:
Perry City Council votes to
spend $5,903 to repair a city well
on Main Street. It’s either that or
pay between $60,000-SBO,OOO for
a new well, explains Councilman
George Nunn.

Perry Mayor James McKinley in
regard to slow ambulance service.

due to slow ambulance service.

that contradicts the claim it took 45
minutes for an ambulance to arrive
durhg two separate responses and
adds: “Since the inception of ambu
lance service in November 1972, I
do not believe that you can attribute
an injury or death to the lack of an
emergency service."
10 years ago:
The City of Perry receives a
SIO,OOO grant for improvements
to Creekwood Park. The funds,
according to Georgia Gov. Zell
Miller, are for a support building at
the facility.

Perry family trying to raise money for a ‘service dog’ to provide their
disabled daughter with protection and companionship

and a few friends, are about to start cook
ing and selling spaghetti dinners m the
hope of raising $13,000 fo> a “guardian
angel” for their daughter Annalv'le.
No. not an angel with wings. A four
footed angel with a cold nose and a warm
heart.
Their hope is to obtain, a truined “service
dog” from an Ohio group called “4Ph.ws for
Ability”.
The cost isn’t for a pedigreed pooch,
because these service dogs, trained to be
protectors and best friends for disabled
children, may be of any breed. (Annabelle’l
dog will probably be a big on"\ since she’l
already tall for her ago at 10.)
The cost, its for the intensive training
that teaches these dogs to look after tht
children in their care.
