‘Hearing Check Challenge’
May 1 marked the
start of Better
Hearing and
Speech Month, a month
dedicated to educating con

assure that their hearing is
healthy.
This year, Hearing
Associates, Inc. is joining
with the Better Hearing
Institute in the Across
America Hearing Check
Challenge, a nationwide
campaign to help millions

quality of life by facing up
to unaddressed hearing

checked - together.
Now, simply by visiting
www.hearingcheck.org and

Your heel guides each step
Your foot is made of many
parts to support your body
and carry its weight. The
intersection of the ankle and
foot is where many of these
come together at the heel.
Each part of your foot plays
a role in supporting you.
Together they form a work
ing system that results in
movement. When your heel
guides the movement cor
rectly, you can stand, walk,
run, and jump without pain.
The tension on ligaments
and tendons are changed as
you walk and heel moves.
With the proper heel move
ment, walking is easy.

Research shows that
hearing health affects
everything from job perfor

Heel Strike
The only edge of your heel
hits the ground first. The
ligaments and tendons are
relaxed, so your foot can
adapt to uneven surfaces.
Midstance
Your weight is transferred
from the heel to the cen

the ligaments and tendons
increase.
Heel Off
The heels lifts and swing
slightly to the inside. The
ligaments and tendons are
rigid, helping your toes push
your body off the ground.

ing loss, it silently erodes
the sufferer’s quality of
life - undermining family
relationships, interfering
with short-term memory,
and creeping into virtually
every aspect of daily living.
The signs of hearing loss
can be subtle and emerge
slowly, or they can be sig
nificant and come on sud
denly. Either way, there are
common indications.
Symptoms of hearing
loss include not being able
to hear well in a crowded
room or restaurant, having
trouble hearing children
and women, keeping the
television or radio turned
up to a high volume, need
ing to ask friends to repeat
what they’re saying, or
experiencing ringing in the
ears.
(In our next column we
will print the quick hearing
screening for those people
who do not have access to
the internet).

Admittedly, there were times
my eyes swelled with tears.
Hentz was a true warrior. He
was of a different persuasion
than me but that does not
matter. I once knew of him,
now I know about him. I would
like to have known him and his

there is hope and light in the
