home run. All told that
inning: seven runs on six
hits.
It looked to be in the bag.
It wasn’t.
Dobbs had relieved Robby
Hinson, who started on the
mound, in the fifth inning.
He faced three batters in
the fifth. The first he struck
out. The second he coaxed
into a fielder’s choice and
the third hit a home run. He
then faced the minimum in
the sixth, striking out the
first two and then throwing
out the third after he had
hit a soft grounder to the
mound.
But in the seventh, he
gave up a walk and a single
to start. After a flyout he
walked another to load the
bases. Scott, who picked up
the win in game two, relieved
him but he wasn’t the same
pitcher. He walked the first
he faced for a run then hit
the second for another. With
the bases loaded, the next
hitter, after fouling off two
pitches with a full count,
hit a grand slam. The next
singled but Scott struck out
the one following. With two
outs, the next delivered the
stunner of all stunners.
DH SPLIT
For all of Thursday’s fun
to unfold, there had to be
a doubleheader split on
Wednesday. That happened
in two games of completely
different character. Newnan
High, behind the power bats
of true freshmen, won the
opener 5-3. Warner Robins
turned Game 2 into a per
sonal home run showcase
with six long balls, all of
which added up to a 12-2
five-inning laugher.

Smith struck out seven and
was able to work around five
walks.
Burke drew one of those
walks in the first inning and
scored when Fant smashed
a baseball deep to left for a
home run.
Sophomore pitcher Chess
Malone started the game
with two shutout innings,
but the visiting Cougars got
to him in the third with
two tying runs. Control was
the issue with Malone as
he walked the bases loaded,
which allowed Newnan to
score on a groundout and a
Mark Frazier single.
Warner Robins got out
of the third as Butterick in
right field threw out a run
ner at the plate. But fresh
man shortstop Alex Hand
of the Cougars untied the
game with a home run lead
ing off the fourth.
Yet another 9th grader in
the Newnan lineup, catcher
Clint Clark, ripped a two
run home run in the sixth
for a 5-2 lead. The Demons
could only counter in the bot
tom of the sixth as Butterick
singled with two outs and
scored as Newnan booted a
Meagley grounder.
Casey Graham got the
start at catcher for Warner
Robins and threw out two
basestealers at second. Burke
also provided a defensive lift
in the top of the fifth with a
diving catch in center.
Scott, as the pitcher of
Game 2, didn’t have to worry
about run support with the
barrage of home run swings
from the Demon lineup. He
held Newnan to one hit in
five innings. That hit, a sin
