Another category may be
those who harbor grudges.

Reaching the end of his
regular table grace, the little
fellow paused. Prompting
him to conclude the prayer,
his mother said, “A-Men.”
“Don’t say, ‘A-Men,” the
youngster stated in a defini
tive tone of voice.
He then proceeded to
give thanks for his parents,
grandparents, the sun, the
moon, the stars, flowers,
birds and trees.
After thanking God for
everything that entered his
young mind, he was ready
for the “A-Men.”
It had not troubled the
little fellow in the least that
the food was getting cold or
that others were anxious to
eat. He had a thankful heart
and wanted to take time to
voice his praise to God-

If so, then you are suffer

against someone who has
wronged you is a powerful,
mind-consuming influence that
gradually destroys its possessor.
A festering, unrestrained

murder. Cain let his anger get

murder of his brother, Abel.
King Saul, jealous of the

In this hurried life, not

seen?” asks the apostle John.
The more I contemplate the
requisites for gaining entrance
into God’s Heavenly Paradise,
the more I am convinced that
it will ultimately depend on
one’s mindset—for God judg
es not outward appearances,
but man’s heart.
It seems illogical that a per
son who goes to his grave
harboring feeling of hostility
and resentment toward another
could wake up in heaven lov
ing the object of his hatred.
Our minds will not be miracu
lously changed in the after-life.
Rather, the mindset we have at
death will be the same mindset
we wake up with on the other
side.
A person who departs this life
still clinging to hatred and feel
ings of contempt, malice, and
scorn towards others would not
be a fit inhabitant for heaven.

The biggest obstacle in deal
ing rationally with mistreat
ment is our egos. Satan is the
one who speaks to us from our
wounded egos and who keeps
us in a perpetual state of hos
tility and vindictiveness.
It is only when we stop
taking ourselves seriously and
depend upon God to overcome
our hurts that we can achieve an
inner peace that befits citizens
of heaven. Although we can’t
control the things that happen
to us, we can and must con
trol how we respond to them.
God speaks forcefully to us in
Leviticus, saying: “You shall
not hate your brother in your
heart, but you shall reason
frankly with your neighbor,
lest you incur sin because of
him.
You shall not take ven
geance or bear a grudge
against the sons of your own
people, but you shall love
your neighbor as yourself.”
The ultimate example is Jesus
Christ who, while dying on the
cross, asked the Father forgive
his murderers.
