Per a release: “Arrrgggg! It’s time these students realize how negative slope, inverse
variation, line of best fit, and linear regression operate in the real world. With the
plank balanced between a scale and a textbook, Mossy Creek Middle School stu
dents moved down the plank at 12” intervals with some very interesting results. At
the end of the plank - everyone weighed the same. Curious-minded students (pic
tured) wanted to see if they could skew the data by piggy-backing down the plank
- it was to no avail!”

WES holds
career fair

Westside Elementary,
according to a release, held
its inaugural Career Fair
Thursday. Approximately
12 exhibitors shared career
information with the stu
dents during that time.
Career booths were set up
for students to visit each
exhibitor. Some were to have
vehicles on display, such as
the fire and police depart
ments.
Linda Shepherd Morse,
Westside counselor, com
mented, “One of our goals
is to make the connection
with students that what
they are learning in school
is directly related to their
future careers.”
The following participants
were scheduled to attend:
• dental assistants and
hygienists from Dr. Denise
Noel’s office;
• firefighters from the
Pleasant Hill/Bernard Drive
station;
• Architect David Selby
from McLees, Boggs, and
Selby;
• Nurse Jeannetta Stokes,
R.N., from Shamrock
Nursing and Rehabilitation;
• Pet bather Barbara Vogh
from Pet Smart;
• Massage therapist

BOE to honor 71 retirees
Special to the Journal
The Houston County
School System will honor
its 71 retirees Tuesday at
6:30 p.m. at the Agricenter’s
Miller-Murphy-Ho ward
building in Perry.
About 1,150 employees and
retirees’ guests are expected
to attend. This year’s theme
is, “Superheroes Every Day
to the Children and Youth
Served.”
Musical entertainment
will be provided by the Perry
High School Jazz Band
directed by Andy Hursey,
Houston County High School
student Rachel Giannattasio
and Northside High School
Clerk Kim Abston.
A comedy skit will be
performed by Anthony
Lunceford, principal of
Lindsey Elementary School.
Dinner will be served and
each retiree will be award
ed a plaque for their years
of service. The event is
sponsored by the Houston
County schools, Parrish
Construction Group, H.E.A.
Federal Credit Union, Clear
Concepts Consulting Group,
Perdue Farms, Wal-Mart and
the Ga. Agricenter.
The Warner Robins High
School graphic arts depart
ment, under the instruction
of Jody Wayne, is providing
design and photo shop sup
port.
