School Technology Student
Association competed in
the 46th Annual Georgia
TSA State Conference
and Competition held this
month in Athens.
Bonaire Middle students
brought home 16 top awards.
This state level competition
attracted approximately 50
high schools and middle
schools.
Bonaire Middle students
won the following awards.
Individual Events
• Kristin Walker: first
place - Agriculture and
Biotechnology Challenge;
first place - Technical
Writing; fourth place -
Prepared Speech; and ninth
place - Dragster Design
• Trevor Pennycutt:
first place - Transportation
Challenge and eighth place
- Electrical Applications
• Geoffrey Wright: first
place - Career Challenge
• Kieya Lambert: second
place - Digital Photography
• Cody Taylor: third place

holds ADVANCE
graduation

Parkwood Elementary
School, according to a
release, recently held an
ADVANCE graduation.
The acronym stands for:
A - Avoiding, D - Drugs,
V - Violence, A - And, N
- Negative, C - Choices, E
- Early.
The graduates were pre
sented with a certificate
and “goody bag” as their
names were announced from
each of the classrooms. The
ADVANCE participants were
asked to write an essay/cre
ate a poster explaining either
what they had learned, how
to recognize and resist the
direct and subtle pressures
that influence them to exper
iment with alcohol, tobacco,
marijuana and other drugs.

were recognized as essay
winners, with Catherine
Rodriquez receiving a tro
phy. Three students had
the best posters. Ebonee
Johnson received a trophy
for the best overall post
er; Casey Agee and Daniel
Smith received ribbons for
their posters.
Parkwood, according to the
release, “is proud of its stu
dents for making the com
mitment to stay committed
to remaining drug-free.”

GHS6T scores announced for
Houston County schools

Georgia High School
Graduation Test results
were released this week by
the Georgia Department of
Education. Houston County
juniors outperformed their
peers across the state.
As one condition of gradu
ation, the state requires
that students pass all four
GHSGT content areas
(English/language arts,
math, social studies and sci
ence) and the Georgia High
School Graduation Writing
Test.
Houston County students
performed above the state
average in every content
area. Of 11th graders who
tested for the first time:
• 93 percent passed the
English/language arts sec
tion;
• 95 percent passed
math;
• 93 percent passed social
