50 years ago:
A “widely-known” service sta
tion operator in Perry is critically
injured when a disc used to bal
ance tires flies off a wheel and hits
him in the head.
30 years ago:
A Perry resident files a civil
suit for $85,000 against the city.
The action charges negligence fol
lowing a gas explosion and fired
that destroyed a portion of Perry
Plaza. The aforementioned was
reported as happening in 1975.
The suit states that the explosion
was caused by an escape of natu
ral gas and that the city owned the
gas system it came out of. "I have
no comment on the suit other than
to say I have turned it over to City
Attorney Larry Walker," says then
mayor James McKinley.
10 years ago:
PPG makes a donation to teh
county - the amount is not speci
fied - to the county for the pur
pose of helping to fund a clinic
that will provide care for uninsured
patients. Also, secretaries have
their day, treated to a luncheon at
Houston Lake Country Club.

A Perry man out fish
ing with a friend drowned
Thursday in a private
pond off Hill Road.
According to Lt. John
Holland of the Houston
County Sheriffs Office,
an investigation indicated
that there was no foul
play.
“It was (just) a very
sad accident,” Holland
said of the death of Mac
Offenburg, 66.
According to the
Holland, investigators
learned that Offenburg
had gone fishing on the
pond with his friend,
Vernon Lane.

men had permission from
the pond’s owner to fish
there, and were in a jon

it deals with leachate ...

The commissioners
voted Tuesday during
their regular meeting to
award a contract in the
amount of $96,787.90
to CBP for equipment
necessary to re-circu
late the leachate back
through garbage at the
landfill.
