Mr. Brian
Brian Bowen and I met in
the usual way. Well Kinda.
I knew of him, but had not
been personally introduced
by anyone until we bumped
into one another at Houston
Lake one night. Danny and
I ended up sitting down
and having dinner together
with Brian, and his wife,
Kellie. At the time, little did
I know that Brian would
soon become very special
to me in many ways. Qur
families would soon become
best friends spending valu
able time together like
Christmas Eve dinners,
Holidays, Vacations, etc.
You name it, and we have
probably done it together.
But today, it seems that all
of our lives are busy, maybe
even a little complex than
most. I don’t get to see
Brian as much as I would
like ,but Brian remains one
of my best friends, whom
I think of often. Brian’s
birthday is May 27™.
Happy Birthday Brian.

Tonisha and Stephen
Shimp are expecting their
first child together.
Becky Bryan, who is one
of my north of Hwy 96
friends, gave her daughter
a experience of a lifetime for
her 7™ birthday. Becky took
Olivia to see Keith Urban
and Carrie Underwood in
Atlanta. Olivia held up a
sign that said, “I need a KU
Kiss Please”. Well, guess
what? Keith saw the sign
and blew Olivia 3 kisses
from the stage. No only did
Olivia see this, but she was
put up on the huge screen
and the entire audience saw
this too. What a magical
moment that must have
been.

Storyteller and magician Chad Crews took on a big challenge
Thursday: getting an audience of teenagers excited about the 2008
Summer Reading Program.
A master of the creepy side of literature, aided with ominous music,
Crews started off with Edgar Allan Poe, and proceeded to Bram
Stoker, creator of “Dracula” and Mary Shelley of Frankenstein fame.
And a big crowd of the teenagers at the Perry Public Library was
clearly enthralled.
Crews, a pastor and former high school teacher from Augusta, who
gave the same program earlier Thursday at the Nola Brantley
Memorial Library in Warner Robins was the opening act for the 2008
Teen Summer Reading Program. He gives over 230 shows per year in
schools and libraries to encourage young people to read.
And that’s what the new summer program is about.
Teens across Houston County will be able to earn $1 “Book Bucks”
for every 30 minutes of reading, and use those “bucks at summer’s
end to buy an array of high tech toys and other items at a silent
auction. There will also be a “Mystery in the Library” program on
June 25 at Centerville Library, a “Barbecue with the Vampire” even
at the Perry Library on June 16, and book discussion group reading
Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight Series” starting June 24 at the Warner
Robins Library.
Visit www.houple.org for more information.
Watch the Journal for news to come about the Library’s big plans for
younger children this summer.
