Vacation Bible Schools starting up
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
. Journal Staff Writer
Summertime is Vacation Bible School
time, and as schools close down teams of vol
unteers in churches across Houston County
are gearing up to provide children with
weeks of fun, crafts, refreshments, games
and - of course - Bible lessons.
VBS programs are generally open to all
children, with some churches holding theirs
during daytime hours and some in the eve
ning so that parents have an opportunity to
attend with their children.
The themes are kid-friendly with an
emphasis on fun.
Houston Lake Baptist Church will
hold Vacation Bible School June 2-6, from
6 to 9 p.m. The theme is “Flight School”.
The church is located at 2300 Hwy 127 East
in Perry. Please call 987-0277 for more
The glorification of the sin of adultery in the media
Parables to Ponder
In her sizzling memoir,
“Audition,” Barbara Walters
confessed to a passionate
affair in the 1970 s with U.S.
Senator Edward Brooke of
Massachusetts, an African
American who was married.
The covert romance between
Brooke and Walters, then
co-host of NBC’s “Today”
show, was a shocking revela
tion. “The affair happened
30 years ago,” said the 78-
year-old TV legend. “It was
a big part of my life at the

told Brooke that she must
break off the affair since he
was a married man. Senator
Brooke asked for a divorce.
His wife was enraged and
attempted to reveal the affair
to the “National Enquirer

that public awareness of
the illicit affair would have
destroyed her career. As it
turned out, Brooke’s lost his
bid for a third term in the
Senate. Not only did Walters
glorify adultery to promote
book sales, but she violat

lover.
How prevalent is adultery?

the' cloth also get into the
act. Newsweek magazine
reported that 30 percent

Although the seventh
commandment states that
“Thou shalt not commit

even touches the pages
of the Bible. David had
