County, WR man go head-to-head
... again... over cul-de-sac

Houston County Board of
Commissioners versus Dan
Laßar - Round Two.
Ding. Ding.
Dan Laßar, who had
appeared at the board’s
prior meetihg vowed he’d
be back. He was Tuesday.
Laßar and the commission
ers had gone head-to-head
the first time over what
Laßar deemed to be the
loss of the cul-de-sac in his
Dixie Trail neighborhood,
more importantly his deem
ing the county had given
away public right of way
to allow it to happen. And
then, he argued, refusing
to do anything about it to
make things right.
This time it was the same
case only he brought pic
tures mounted on approxi
mately two by three foot
poster board, as well as a
map of the plat, to help
demonstrate his point(s).
He made a lawyer-esque
presentation, in suit, pac
ing back and forth and at
times shooting out ques
tions to the commissioners,
then pausing for an on-the
spot answer.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

From page 4 A
I can imagine a scenario
where Mr. Gadbois is in a
restaurant sopping up the
last traces of his redeye

After reading Frank W.
Gadbois’ letter from
Wednesday about the new
gun law, I had to chuckle
about how the anti-gun rhet
oric is still alive and well.
Although history has proven
the “we are all going to die
at the hands of gun own
ers” scare tactic still remains
unfulfilled.
Mr. Gadbois is ignoring the
fact that this bill applies to the
existing 300,000 Concealed
Weapons Permit holders. I
happen to be one of them. I
don’t anticipate a mad rush
to the Sheriff’s Office of new
applicants wanting to carry a
gun to go with their morning
grits.
When was the last time
you heard about someone
with a weapon permit rob
bing a restaurant? Of course
all permit holders have a
complete background check
before the permits are
issued.
Why is it the people who
are anti private gun owner
ship tend to ignore the crimi
nals who carry them illegally?
They always imagine them
selves victims of the legal
gun owners, whether the
guns are concealed or not.
Then, when some criminal
robs or assaults them with
a stolen gun, they defend
that criminal by saying we
shouldn't have had the gun
in our house for them to
steal, thus making the crimi
nal another victim of society
and the lunatic gun owners.
I hope that I never have to
use my gun to defend myself,
but I want that option. I want
to have a choice not to sur
render to a criminal, whether
it be at home or in a public
place. You might be in that
same store or restaurant
when I have to use my gun
in self defense. Be sure to
thank me after you get to
go home with your life and
property.
What people don’t real
ize is that today’s criminals
are NOT the same ones
your parents dealt with. The

a piece of property, we’re
given a deed, we’re given
a covenant. It’s on a plat.
The land is recorded in
the courthouse of Houston
County with the measure
ments and the boundaries.
Is that a legal document?”
“It should be,” Hall said.
Later to Commissioner
Jay Walker after summing
up that he felt the county
was giving his neighbor
- he identified him as “No.
13” - a 20 foot by 30 foot
piece of public property.
“Do you think that’s right
Mr. Walker?”
Walker first asked for an
explanation on how Laßar
thought the county was giv
ing it to No. 13.
Laßar responded by say
ing: “We have no use for it
(his biggest argument as of
late - this has been ongo
ing mostly for the better
part of 12 years, he said at
the earlier meeting - is a
mailbox put in the right of
way, which he said makes
it no longer a cul-de-sac).
You can’t drive through
it (he said the neighbor
some years back put up
a fence and bushes). You
can’t drive next to it. You
the guy setting next to him.
This could cause Mr.
Gadbois’ digestive sys
tem to kick into high
gear, I’m sure that is a
situation none of us would
relish being around.
Mr. Gadbois’ idea that we
should allow “the cameras”
to record the criminals’ activ
ity sounds good, but unless
majority of them today are
using a variety of drugs and
are desperate for money
to buy more. They are also
much more violent and won’t
hesitate to shoot someone
even though you cooperate.

can’t drive over it (he said
it was hilly from where the
neighbor had left mounds
of dirt - this, too, some
years back).”
Walker’s response, with
a bit of back-and-forth dis
cussion between the two
sandwiched in between,
was all residents often use
the public right of way.
(Note: It was pointed out
to him at the last commis
sioners’ meeting that just
about everybody’s mailbox
is located in the public right
of way, and it was reiter
ated at this one.)
And in fact he asked
Laßar where the car - his
car - was parked at in the
picture.
“In the street,”, he said.
“How is it injuring or
damaging you or any of the
other people on that street
or anybody else in the coun
ty,” Walker then asked.
“Well, it’s a turnaround.
It’s in a cul-de-sac.”
Ding. Ding.
Shortly thereafter,
Sanders called for the bell.
He told Laßar he had had
his time to make his case
- he said 15 minutes.
He did, however, add

resident - Houston County for
that matter. Because if you
don’t hear it from the media
who are you going to get it
from? Are they going to have
a mass briefing at the sta
dium? We don’t think so.
So, “your” we would argue
is quite simply “you.”
But, let’s get back to it. Not
only are we talking about a
S2OO million investment, we’re
talking about $230 million in
economic impact. We re talk
ing about 1,800 jobs, or at
least that’s what Smith briefed.
And, he added this - these
benefits - could just be the tip
of the iceberg.
So, to say: “It's none of
your business” - holding our
gaze as if daring us to argue,
and not even trying to make
a small attempt at quantify
ing just why it wasn’t - really
doesn’t cut it.
Walker has done wonder
ful things for Warner Robins.
No doubt he will continue to
do wonderful things - the G-
Ramp project being a prime
example. His legacy will be
long and proud.
But: “It’s none of your busi
ness” to us, sounds too much
like a power trip.
Has he reached a point he
thinks he owns the business
when in fact he’s just mind
ing the store for a much more
important set of stakehold
ers ... you (and us because
some of us do live in Warner
Robins).
And just a word on this ani
mal control shelter issue. You
can blame the councilmen
who voted against it if you
want to, but we really don’t
think that’s fair. All, those who
voted for and those who went
against, were just trying to do
what they believed to be the
right thing under some very
trying circumstances.
We have to believe if the
