ASHLEE SIMPSON
BY REYHANEH FATHIEH
IT’S HARD to draw an ounce of
angst from Ashlee Simpson. More
apt to talk passionately about
Hemingway, the bulldog she shares
with her husband, Pete Wentz, than
the woes of an unjust world, the young
pop star might be the perfect foil to
her rehab-ready counterparts. This is
one singer who thinks most anything

She might be the perfect

Simpson, whose third CD, Bittersweet
World, is out now, is at least 25% gig
gles. It’s genetic. She says the Simp
sons are “generally happy people
not like the Brady Bunch, but we’re
at peace.”
Simpson has plenty of rea- H
sons to be perky. Besides her W'f'jm
current single. Little Miss

cracked the Top 5 despite selling only
47,000 copies in its first week, has a
“dance-y, diverse sound,” she says.
She has writing credits on all 11 songs,
a big chunk of which are boastful hot
girl anthems. Simpson sings that you
“better expect that boys attack” in
Hot Stuff, brags that she can get her
way on anything in Murder and likens
her kiss to kryptonite in Boys.
Not that she’s thinking about flirt
ing anymore. Simpson and Wentz, who
dated since 2006, have been spotted
from Starbucks to the White House
Correspondents’ Dinner. An odd pair
ing with the president, perhaps. But
between making funny online videos
and sharing hair products, Simpson
says she and Wentz closely follow the
presidential race. Simpson wouldn’t
say for whom she’s voting, but says
she and Wentz (a vocal
