Robins AFB civilian employee/local resident voluntarily deploys to Kuwait

Most only worry
and wonder what
their husband or
wife goes through during a
deployment.
Not Dagmar Fuller. She
worried and wondered
only so long. Then she
took matters into her own
hands. She deployed.
Perhaps most unusual
about that is the fact
Fuller is not military. She’s
an associate, a civilian
employee of the Army
and Air Force Exchange
Service’s Base Exchange
on Robins Ats Force Base.
Right now, however,
she’s 7,138 miles away
from her Houston County
home, at a contingency
post exchange in Kuwait.
“I wanted to do my part,”
she said. “I wanted to sup
port the troops, of course,
but I also wanted to experi
ence what it was like.
“My husband (who is
in the Army) is gone a lot
(right now he’s on a remote
assignment to Korea), he’s

Mission accomplished.

Wish comes true for Bonaire youth

When 9-year-old Jacob Dawson
of Bonaire was asked by the Kids

what he wanted most for his wish,

wanted to visit Skywalker Ranch,

moving that an extra special
exception was made just for him.
His wish adventure to California
began with a simple phone call.
Dawson’s aunt learned about

she is also away from
her daughter, Janet, and

of Jacob and submitted his name.
His mother, Heather, was hope
ful at the prospect of him getting
a wish. After all that her brave
son had been through, Heather
desperately wanted Jacob to have
something fun to look forward to.
In 2005, Jacob was diagnosed
with Duchenne muscular dystro

progressive forms of muscular
dystrophy and is characterized
by extremely rapid deterioration
of the muscles. He is experienc
ing increasing difficulty with his
mobility and relies on a motorized
scooter and a wheelchair for long
distances. He also attends fre
quent physical therapy sessions.
Once he was approved for a
wish with Kids Wish Network, he
had to decide what he wanted. It
wasn’t a tough decision for this
special little Star Wars fan. He
wanted to visit Skywalker Ranch.
Dawson’s Kids Wish Network
Wish coordinator got right to work.
She contacted Skywalker Ranch
and was told that while they ordi
narily do not provide tours and
visits to the ranch, they would
make an exception in Dawson’s
case as his story was so touching.
Before Jacob knew it, he was on
his way to California!

Cheney visits Peppy to
campaign top Goddapd
By CHARLOTTE PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
Vice President Dick Cheney was in
Perry on Monday to boost the campaign
of Rick Goddard, Republican candidate
for the Bth District seat in the U.S.
Congress.
Cheney, who flew into Macon, was
guest of honor at a reception at the
home of Deborah and Steve Davison,
with about 250 in attendance.
Donations for those attending ranged
from $l5O to SI,OOO per individual, with
top donors having the opportunity to
sit down with the vice president for a
conversation, and to have photos taken
with him.
Gov. Sonny Perdue and numerous
Republican elected officials were in
attendance.
Rick Goddard said on Wednesday
that he was veiy honored by Cheney’s
endorsement and support.
He noted that more than $115,000
was raised at the event, and that the
National Republican Congressional
Committee is backing his campaign,
which, Goddard said, they consider to
be one of the top two races in which
Republican candidates may make suc
cessful challenges to Democratic incum
bents.
Goddard, who has no opposition in
the July 13 primary election, antici
pates running against U.S. Rep. Jim
Marshall, D-Macon, on the November
General Election ballot.
