Soles of Perry
to contend in
MM Ip 60
Special to the Journal
Lori Soles of Perry is
among those listed to
contend in the Georgia
Top 60 Women’s Classic,
which takes place today
and Thursday at Achasta
Golf Club in Dahlonega.
The event, according
to a release, is 36 holes
of stroke play over two
days with the field of
60 women divided into
five flights by handicap
index.
Entries were open to
female amateur golfers
who are members of a
GSGA member club and
residents of Georgia and
have a USGA Handicap
Index not exceeding
15.0. The field consists
of the 60 entrants with
the lowest handicap
indexes. The Georgia
Top 60 Women’s Classic
began in 1989 as the Top
40 Women’s Classic. The
field was extended to 56
competitors in 2002 and
then extended to 60 in
2003.
At the 2007 Georgia
Top 60 Women’s Classic,
played at Champions
Retreat Golf Club in
Evans, Lauren Darnell
of Gainesville posted a
final-round 72 to make
up a one-stroke deficit
and win by a single shot
over Leigh Crosby of
Athens. Darnell returns
to defend her title this
year at Achasta Golf
Club.
