1. “The CO chamber must
be of <he highest quality con
struction and should allow
for the separation of indi
vidual animals." The Warner
Robins chamber is a box
of aging, discolored cinder
blocks, with peeling caulking
surrounding the rusted door
and frame.
An OSHA inspection
would probably end its use,
as would one by an insur
ance company’s risk man
ager. The Dept of Agriculture
is negligent in allowing its
operation as well, but that’s
another problem. Separation
of animals appears unlikely.
2. “The CO chamber must
be well lit and have view
ports that allow personnel
direct observation of ani

J A The Sheriff of a county this size is a manager/budget director, and law enforcement ot- \
jm K Mff ficer. While I have arrested individuals, the size of this count)' today limits my role of Sheriff to mk
m Jm JKBF managing the 324 employees and ensuring we stay within the budget approved by our com mb vL
W sinners. Our opponent by his own admission through his web site, said he was a street cop and not a Igjk ifgfr,
YMF jMP' top level business manager nor skilled budget director. The fact is that the Office of Sheriff for a county of lj||^j
pJr this size is about personnel and budget management. He sets guidelines and policies, then hires people to make
sure they are carried out, providing them with the resources they need to get the job done.
With your help and support, I would like to continue to serve the citizens of Houston County in the Office of Sheriff. I ask for your
vote July 15th in the Republican Primary. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call upon me or my office. You may also i

will be moderated by Joe

Director.
Question will be asked
by Charlotte Perkins of

Sun News. There will be no
questions from the audi

Candidates will be from
very effective judging by its
placement. Macon's proce

until the noise stops.
3. “Any electrical equip
ment exposed to CO must be
explosion proof.” The exten
sion cord hardly qualifies.
4. “Carbon monoxide is
a cumulative poison. (It is)
extremely hazardous for per
sonnel because it is highly
toxic and difficult to detect.”
While the concentration in
the chamber needs to be
at least 6 percent, signs of
CO toxicosis in humans are
evident at a mere .05 per
cent. The inherent dangers
to personnel of CO exposure
at low levels combined with
the required concentration
for expedited death of the
animals demand specialized
monitoring and training. At
above 10% concentration,
CO can be explosive.

The point is, Warner
Robins Animal Control has
a long way to go to comply
with AVMA recommenda

of the current method of gas

irrelevant.

in addition to upholding the law, “The sher

people of this county.”
There was no criticism of Chad Payne, the
sheriffs challenger in the race.
Reminiscing, Talton said that he had left
his post on the County Commission to run
for sheriff after he learned that the current

Animal Control is an essen

reciprocal responsibilities

the use of gas chambers by
our area's largest two cities

It is naive to expect own

to wake up to the obvious.

He noted that there is a long waiting list

Looking back, Talton said that when he

He sees his role as part of a team working
