■ SOUTHEASTERN
SHINDIG - The Southeastern
Shindig will be rolling into the
Georgia National Fairgrounds
and Agricenter (McGill Bldg.)
Aug. 2. The doors open at 8
a.m. and the event runs until 4
p.m. (Attendees will not be able
to park their cars inside the build
ing if arriving after 11:00am.) The
event, according to a release,
will be a family oriented meet
and-greet event that is exclu
sively for owners of Chrysler's
LX platform of vehicles, which
include the Chrysler 300, Dodge
Magnum, Dodge Charger and
the hotly anticipated Dodge
Challenger. There is no cost to
attend this event and the only
requirement is that you own one
of these vehicles. Door prizes
will be given away periodically
throughout the day in addition
to vendor sponsored drawings.
Additionally, “How To” clinics will
be given by our vendors and
sponsors for products pertaining
to the LX platform vehicles.

City Council Post 1, District 3
Charles Lewis is a graduate of the Perry School System.
Charles chose Perry as his home with wife Loretta and four
wonderful children. All of his children are graduates of Perry
High School. Three of his children continue to reside in Houston
County, Chuck, Lynn & Cindy. Son, Chad lives in Tacoma, WA.
Charles is a devoted grandfather of five.
Charles served for 17 years in the Police Department. Thirteen
and a half years in the City Council, 25 years as a business
owner, “Houston Locksmith Service” which is now operated by
his son.
He is proactive in seeking quality jobs for the area. Charles
is a physical conservative, and believes growth is inevitable.
Accomplishing this through nourishing the growth and
incorporating it into the existing scheme of things. Charles
believes that city and property owners need to work together to
help generate commercial roads for hospitality business.
Charles believes the city should maintain gas, water, waste
water infrastructure so that we can have adequate capacity for
a treatment facility.
His roots are planted deep and believes Perry is the best place

OBITUARIES "Always remembered"
Robert N. Benris
PERRY - Robert N. Bemis died July 3, 2008. He was born the
son of the late Norman C. and Ann (Flinn) Bemis in Stamford,
Connecticut, on November 14, 1943. He attended school in
East Providence, Rhode Island, and college at Southern Illinois
University in Carbondale, Illinois.
Mr. Bemis retired from civil service at Robins
Air Force Base in 2004 as the first Director of
Services for the Air Force Reserve Command.
He was responsible for home-base and deployed
feeding and lodging, Mortuary Affairs, Morale,
Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs and
reserve staffing of the Air Force Mortuary at
Dover Air Force Base. He personally managed
200 Air Force Reservists at the mortuary pro
cessing remains from the terrorist aircraft crash
into the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 and
following other incidents, such as the Unadilla,
Georgia, crash of a Florida National Guard plane.
Mr. Bemis was also retired from the Air Force. While he served in
Vietnam, he was credited with rescuing five crew members from a
Force Base, he was responsible for fire protection for the very large
base, the surrounding civilian community, and 150 missile sites
scattered over the northeastern quarter of North Dakota. At 26,
he was identified as the youngest fire chief in the Air Force. From
1976 to 1979, he was assigned as General Manager and Deputy
to the Base Commander at a large full service military resort in the
Philippines.
He had more than 42 years of total sen/ice to the Air Force and
received numerous military and civilian awards and decorations.
He was past president of the International Military Community
Executives Association (IMCEA) and was honored by the Armed
Forces Recreation Society as recipient of their Executive Fellow
Award. He also served in France, Great Britain, Korea, and at
several locations in the U.S., including three major command
headquarters. He was a member of the Air Force Association, the
National Rifle Association, NARFE, IMCEA, the American Legion,
and was a Life Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association.
Mr. Bemis is survived by his wife, Cynthia Bemis, Hawkinsville,
and their three children. He was the proud father of JoAnne Bemis,
Hawkinsville, Karen Bemis, Boston, Massachusetts, and Stephen
A. Bemis, Perry and uncle of Diane Austin, Warrick, Rhode
Island, Norman E. Bemis, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sheri Bemis, Oxford,
Massachusetts and Stephen R. Bemis, Chepachet, Rhode Island.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother.
A memorial service will be held at Robins Air Force Base Chapel
at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Mr. Bemis’ remains will
be interred at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial donations
may be made to the Georgia Sheriffs Youth Home, P. O. Box 1000,
Stockbridge GA 30281-9878.

Eddie Radford
WARNER ROBINS - Eddie Radford, 55, entered into rest on
July 5, 2008. Mr. Radford was bn October 20,1952, in San Antonio,
Texas. ‘His memory will forever be treasured by his sgn, Mark Erin
Radford; mother, Virginia Radford, Warner Robins; father, Kenneth
Floyd Radford, Sr., Murphy, North Carolina.
Services will be held at a later time in North Carolina.

Mark Cerka
Warner Robins - Our dear son Mark Cerka, 49, entered into rest
on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. Mark was born on April 25, 1959 in
Fort Bragg, North Carolina but lived in Middle Georgia most of his
life. Forever treasuring his memory are his sons, Kalen Eugene
Cerka and Justin Martin; parents, Donald and Carolyn Cerka; sis
ter, Cindy Cerka; brother, Tim Cerka.

Fund, care of Donald E. Cerka, 507 Todd Circle, Warner Robins
