Why should residents vote
for you?
I have eight years experience
as a Commissioner in a robust
growth period for our county.
I feel my experience is invalu
able in leading this county the
next four years along with the
other Commissioners. I have
been on both sides of the
county as a department head
for six yeas and Commissioner
for eight years. I understand
the importance of proactive
government, and the daily
nuts and bolts of running the
County.

Industrial growth is a must
to increase our tax base
and give relief to our hom

Authority with Consent of the
Commissioners are close to
closing a large industrial tract
and working hard on another.
In the 2006 SPLOST nine out
of 12 major road projects are
designed to alleviate traffic
congestion around schools
and install sidewalks for foot
traffic. Keeping these projects
flowing and in the budget
is a priority. I want Houston

County to be a place that our
children and grandchildren
wili want to return to, to live
and work after their education
is complete.
Where do you stand on all
county siren system?
The entire county needs
an early warning system,
sirens are certainly a part of
that. The general consensus
of fire chiefs and emergency
management people is that
the county should begin with
sirens. Chairman Ned Sanders
is pushing the siren systems
and the county has signed off
along with Centerville, Warner
Robins has said they would go
along, Perry has agreed to help
fund the study, but reserves
the right to make a decision
after the study. If this coali
tion hangs together, I certainly
would be for going ahead with
the siren system and while
this system is being installed
take a look at weather radios
as a back up. There are 56,000
households in the entire
county, cities are included.
Radio shack has the Midland
all hazard radio for SSO. If
the coalition does not hold
together, I believe the county
should pursue a referendum
from the people so we could
exceed the tax cap and have
the sirens installed. One time
increase only.
It will take about a year to
have the sirens installed (per
Chief Jimmy Williams). In the
meantime I would urge our
citizens to log on to weather,
com and sign up for a free
service to call your cell phone
and e-mail you about severe
weather, extreme heat, rain,
pollen and daily forecasts.
Where do you stand on a
joint venture between the
City of Warner Robins, City
of Centerville and the county
on an animal shelter?
As it stands now, Perry is too

far along on their shelter to
reverse course. I understand
that the shelter will be com
plete in 24 months. The county
and cities have always worked
together and this too will be
worked out.
Where do you stand on
Vision 2020?
First, the Commissioners are
not required to take action
on any 2020 recommenda
tions. 2020 is strictly an advi
sory group that brings county
issues to the forefront. It is
up to the cities and county to
pass any of its recommenda
tions.
Where do you stand on
impact fees?
Impact fees are nothing
more than another tax. The
county for instance gets very
little or no commercial busi
ness because are no in the
sewer business. Industry
will not move here unless
all fees are abated, so that
would leave housing to take
the brunt of impact fees. If
the county charged SI,OOO
per home as Perry approved
and we write 500 new home
permits, by the time you paid
administration for the fee you
would need maybe $400,000.
That amount would hardly

fund an intersection improve
ment in the county. We will be
much better of enlarging our
industrial base.
Where do you stand on
construction/development
at the south end of the
county?
I will address Oaky Woods
as a South end project. I am
for Oaky Woods being bought
by the state and preserved.
First you need a seller and an
appraisal and then the buyer
and seller agree on a price. If
the state can negotiate a price
and pay two-thirds of the cost,
I certainly would be in favor of
putting it before the people
of Houston County in a refer
endum: so that we could float
a bond issue to pay for the
county's part of the purchase.
The referendum would be nec
essary to exceed the Tax Cap.
Where do you stand on
taxes?
Along with the other
Commissioners, I have worked
long and hard to keep our
mileage rate the lowest in
Middle Georgia and still render
the necessary services to our
citizens.

The 800 Megahertz System

our county together under

to our police, deputies and
emergency personnel; plus it
saved dispatch personnel cost
to the cities.
