Perry Methodist Church
begins a drive to raise SIOO,OOO.
The money, according to the
newspaper report, will be used
to construct an educational
building. More than 100 mem
bers make up the church’s task
force.
30 years ago:
Perry police are called in when
the parents of three frightened
youngsters call in saying their
children have been terrorized by
a black teen, around 15 or 16.
The children, according to the
newspaper report, were walking
through the woods when they
came across the teen lying on
his back in a wooded area near
their homes on Park Avenue.
When they got closer the teen
jumped up and began growling
and chasing them - the children
describe him as a werewolf.
Police later belief it is a local
boy who aspires to be an actor
and, oh by the way, also says
he is a werewolf. As of this
issue, he was still on the loose.

Longtime Houston County
Sheriff Cullen Talton got
a resounding vote of con
fidence, with about 5,000
votes to Chad Payne’s 1,750
unofficially counted at press

He won the "Republican
nomination and faces
no competition in the
November election. Talton,
who has been sheriff for 36
years, will begin serving his
10th term in January.
The sheriff was endorsed
by the police chiefs of all
three cities in the county.
He faced vigorous opposi
tion from Payne, a former
officer with the Houston
County Sheriffs Office,
with long experience in
the battle against drugs,
but while Payne waged a
steady grassroots battle and
went door to door with his
campaign, Talton’s longev
ity and experience won out
with voters countywide.
He won in every pre
cinct in the county, tripling
Payne’s vote in several poll

precinct with 434 votes to
Payne’s 126.
