BOE wins National PR award
Special to the Journal
The Houston County Board
of Education Community
Relations Department has
been recognized by the
National School Public
Relations Association with
a 2008 Golden Achievement
Award for Exemplary Public
Relations Activity. The award
was presented for the Prom
Campaign. NSPRA judges
used the following award cri
teria to identify outstanding
achievement in a public rela
tions program: 1) analysis of
program need; 2) planning;
3) execution and communica
tion of the program; and 4)
formal evaluation. Houston’s
entry was judged to meet all
four criteria.
The Prom Campaign was
placed in NSPRA’s resources
for members seeking exem
plary public relations pro
grams. In a May 20, 2008,
letter of commendation,
Richard D. Bagin, NSPRA
executive director, wrote,
“Successful public relations
programs require the talents
of many people. This effort
was evident in your win
ning entry. You are one of a
select group of winners and
we again congratulate you
and the leadership of your
district for being a leader in
school communication.”
The campaign encour
aged students to make the
right choices during prom.
The theme was, “Make it
memorable, not a blur. Make
the right choices!” The
Warner Robins High School
Drama Department, under
the direction of teacher
Tammy Fisher, participated
in the campaign by creat
ing a commercial. Admobile
sponsored the Public Service
Announcement.
The campaign also won
a Georgia School Public
Relations Association award
this school year, one of five
Gold awards presented to
Beth McLaughlin, Director
of Community and School
Affairs, at the fall GSPRA
conference. It was one of
three Houston entries that
scored a perfect 100.
