Maybe it was Rick Thompson’s “inspiration” (re: article
on Thompson in Saturday’s paper) or maybe it was a mat
ter of the cream rising to the top.
Whatever it was, it worked for Larry Myers of the Perry
Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club.
He entered competition at the World Horseshoe
Tournament, which began July 7 and runs through
July 19 in York, Penn. - his days of competition being
Thursday-Saturday - with a 41 percent ringer percent
age.
That put him in a competitive draw, the D-3 Class, with
pitchers representing New Jersey, North Dakota, Texas,
even Ontario, Canada - 16 in all in that class.
After the first day, Myers was in ninth place. He had a
2-3 record and had scored 73 ringers out of 200 pitched.
By the time it was over for him on Saturday, he had
climbed all the way to third overall. He finished with a 9-
6 record, getting the edge via ringer percentage on Myles
Sulik of Connecticut, who had the same record.
Myers connected for 235 ringers out of 600 for
