Donated plane to be used by Middle Georgl
Technical College as instructional tool

The Middle Georgia
Techn'ical College
Foundation recently
received an in-kind donation
of a Huntington Jet Provost
airplane valued at $125,000
from the estate of the Late
Otha Dewitt Clemmer of
Griffin.
The plane, according to
a release, will be used by
Middle Georgia Technical
College as an instructional
tool for the Aerospace pro
grams.
“We are very apprecia
tive of this donation from
the Clemmer estate,” said
Cheryl Stelk, director of
Advancement at Middle
Georgia Technical College
and executive director for the
MGTC Foundation. “We wel
come the opportunity to use
this plane for the advance
ment of our students, as
well as our Foundation. We
are grateful to the Clemmer
family for considering us for
this donation.”

The Phoenix Center Community Service Board presented their annual employee rec
ognition awards recently to, from left: Jerelene Davis, Nancie Masters and Sandra
Robinson. The recipients of the awards were nominated by their peers and were
selected by members of the Community Service Board. The awards, which have been
presented to Phoenix Center employees for the past 17 years, are designed to recog
nize employees who have shown exceptional commitment to their job and have made
an effort to go the extra mile.

University of West Georgia
in the undergraduate pro
gram of study he pushed
strong and graduated in
May 2008.
“Since both of my par
ents are doctors,” he said.
“I wasn’t sure I would be
interested in medicine. But
the more I shadowed doctors
(the more) I found that 1 was
drawn to it.”
While in Hong Kong, Pillai
was able to attend the lec
tures and gain knowledge
and exposer to the world of
ophthalmology.
Lectures on improving
patients’ vision without
glasses following cataract
surgery gave Gayton a plat
form to reveal his surgical
techniques to an interna
tional audience. “It was an
honor to share these tech
niques with a worldwide
audience of my peers. By
helping our patients see here
in Georgia, we are improv
ing vision of patients around
the world.”

Hong Kong, Gayton had the
opportunity to address a del

1950 s and 19605, Britain’s
Royal Air Force utilized this
plane, which has become
a popular jet for warbird
enthusiasts today. The plane
has a maximum speed of 440
miles per hour. Only around
500 of the planes were man
ufactured.
Upon the donation of
the plane to the MGTC
Foundation, the 1967 model
was still deemed airworthy.
Clemmer, who lost his battle
with cancer in June, was an
avid aviation enthusiast. He
is described by friends as
living life to the fullest and
sharing his love of flying as
an instructor, almost to the
end.
Clemmer was a native of
Memphis, Tenn. and joined
the Army Air Corps in 1943.
He served in the Memphis
Air National Guard and saw
active duty in the United
States Air Force in the
egation of Australian oph
thalmologists and the Indian
Society of Ophthalmology.

country, Clemmer was a
Delta Air Lines Captain
until his retirement in
1985. He continued to pur
sue his passion of flying
after retirement as a crop
duster, aviation mechanic,
small town airport owner,
ultralight pilot, private jet
pilot, and flight instructor.
He even learned to fly heli
copters when he was in his
70s. He is survived by his
wife Beverly and their three
children, six grandchildren,
and his sister, Pattie Sue
Clemmer Jones.
The Aerospace programs
at Middle Georgia Technical
College include Aviation
Maintenance Technology
and Aircraft Structural
Technology. Both programs
offer a co-op program with
Robins Air Force Base. In
addition, students can gain
the necessary skills to earn
an Airframe and Powerplant

and the medical director
of Eyesight’s Laser and
Surgery Centre in Warner
Robins.

In accordance with Article II of Perry City Code, notice is hereby given
that all cats and dogs within the Citv of Perry must be registered in the
office of the Tax Clerk no later than July 31, 2008. Before registration tag
is issued, the owner or custodian must furnish the Tax Clerk with a current
innoculation certificate from a licensed veterinarian. The cost of each tag is
$7.00 and each tag must be properly secured to a collar and worn around
the neck of the dog or cat at all times. Puppies and kittens must be registered
at 12 weeks of age. Doe and cat owners or custodians who shall violate the
provision of Article II of Perry City Code shall be guilty of an offence against
the Cire of Perry and upon conviction thereof in the Municipal Court of the
City of Perry shall be fined accordingly. Remember, dog and cat tags are valid
