U BIRDS OF PREY SHOW
- The Middle Georgia Youth
Science & Technology Center
will host the Birds of Prey Show
Nov. 15. This special program is
being presented by the Georgia
Southern University Wildlife
Center, and will begin at 1 p.m.
in the Amphitheater. Tickets are
$lO per person. Participants
will see the birds perform fly
ing and retrieving exercises,
and learn' about their environ
ments. MGYSTC is located at
the Museum of Aviation, and
is part of a network of Georgia
Youth Science & Technology
Centers throughout the state.
The purpose of MGYSTC is to
promote interest and enthusi
asm in science and technology
among students and teachers
in Middle Georgia. For tickets

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
- The Vietnam Veterans of
America Warner Robins Chapter
No. 902 announces its scholar
ship award program for 2009.
Scholarships will be awarded
in memory of Logan Walton,
a late member of the chapter.
The chapter will award schol
arships to high school seniors
in Houston County. Students
must either participate in the
AFJROTC program at of the
county schools or be the child
or grandchild of a veteran.
Applicants must be in finan
cial need to meet educational
expenses, maintain above aver
age grades and most impor
tantly, demonstrate a spirit of
volunteerism and community
involvement. Applications and
additional information are avail
able through the senior class
guidance office, the AFJROTC
office at each of the high
schools, or via the chapter web
site at www.vva9o2.org. The
application deadline is March 1,

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
FOR FY 2009 HUD ENTITLEMENT GRANT
The City of Warner Robins is accepting applications for funding of Fiscal Year 2009 U. S.
Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block
Grant. Applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM. on December 29, 2008.
The range of uses of funds is very broad and includes, but is not limited to the following:
• Program planning and administration
• Acquisition and disposition of real property
• Code Enforcement
• Clearance, demolition, and rehabilitation of publicly and privately owned
commercial and residential structures
• Fair housing
• Removal of architectural barriers
• Public facilities and improvements
• Public services
• Historic preservation
• Economic opportunity
• Activities undertaken as part of a Consolidated Plan
In order to meet the requirements for CDBG funding, proposed projects must meet one
or more of the following three National Objects:
1) Benefit to low and moderate income persons
2) Address slum and blight
3) Meet a particular urgent need

OBITUARIES
Margaret tome Doughtie Cooper
WARNER ROBINS - Margaret Anne Doughtie Cooper,
75, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Heartland
Hospice House in Macon. Services were held Friday in the
All Saints Episcopal Church in Warner Robins, with burial in
Parkway Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cooper was born in
Columbus, Georgia. She was
the daughter of the late Eugene
Britt Doughtie, Sr. and Beryl Prioleau Chisolm Doughtie.
She was also preceded in death by a son, James Wesley
Cooper, brothers, Dr. Eugene Britt Doughtie, Jr., Rutledge
Chisolm Doughtie, sister, Carolyn Elizabeth Doughtie, uncle,
Col. George Martimer Couper and an aunt, Margaret Adela
Chisolm Couper of Clearwater, Fla. Before moving to Warner
Robins, Mrs. Cooper lived in Florida, where she was a Girl
Scout leader and a certified high school math and english
teacher. She was the current President of the Beta Sigma Phi
Sorority. After retiring from Robins Air Force Base, she was
an Avon Representative earning the Presidents Club and Mrs.
Albee awards for 15 years. She was a member of Christ the
Redeemer Anglican Church and sang in the church choir.
Survivors include her husband, James Kenneth Cooper of
Warner Robins, daughters, Deborah Wilson (Jim) of Warne,
NC and Peggy Cooper Dale of Centerville, grandchildren,
Caitlyn Lacey Dale and Graham Cooper Dale, brother,
George Malone Doughtie of Titusville, Fla., sister, Beryl
Chisolm Doughtie Williamson (Robert Loy) of Prattville, Ala.,
sister-in-laws, Susan Doughtie ofHorseshoe Bend, Texas and
Sheila Doughtie of Mobile, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heartland
Hospice House @ 115 Arkwright Rd., Macon, GA, 31210 or to
the American Cancer Society @ P.O. Box 4406, Macon, GA,
31208, in memory of Mrs. Cooper.
Heritage Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrange
ments.
William J. "Bill" Polk, Sr.
WARNER ROBINS - William J. "Bill” Polk, Sr., 78, entered
into rest Oct. 26.
Mr. Polk was born on Sept. 24, 1930, in Sandersville.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of
49 years, Patricia Hamrick Polk; daughters, Patti Polk King
(David) and Traci N. Polk, Warner Robins; son, William J.
Polk, Jr., Smyrna; granddaughter, Lea King; and brothers,
Joe Polk, Douglas, Dan Polk, Brunson, South Carolina, Ed
Polk, Warner Robins, and Lewis Wright, Warner Robins.
