Bacon leads Northside into the playoffs
By MATTHEW BROWN
Journal Sports Writer
From the Houston Home
Journal Nov. 1, 2008
(It would seem like Xavier
Bacon grew up his whole life
waiting for a chance to play
Warner Robins High in a
football game at McConnell-
Talbert Stadium.)
Ladies and gentlemen,
there is more truth to the
above statement than anyone
might imagine. Northside
High School’s latest back
field star did grow up with
a dream of taking on the
Demons wearing an Eagles
blue and white uniform.
“It’s a dream come true,”
said Xavier Bacon on Monday.
He wasn’t just talking about
one particular game, but
this entire 2008 season,
his first for Northside. The
senior may be well known
for having lived in the state
of Alaska this time last year,
but he is a Georgia native,
has family ties to Conrad
Nix’s prep football program
and is redefining the “work
horse” role on the gridiron.
“All the fans, players and
coaches really made it feel
like home when I first got
here,” said Bacon, who is
preparing - as is his team
mates - for first-round play
off action in GHSA’s Class

Local 'Mud Buster' finishes
runner-up hi Junior Rodeo
Special to the Journal
It was Malik “Peanut” Roberts’
first year in the Middle Georgia
Junior Rodeo of Hawkinsville in
“Mud Busting” (sheep riding) and it
was a production one.
Despite missing the first two
events of the season, he took advan
tage of the four remaining to finish
reserved champion (runner-up).
The Tucker Elementary School
second grader has now successfully
graduated to bull riding.
“I want to thank all the sponsors,”
said his godfather Jeffrey “Gowboy”

(Jim) Worrall), Dianne Brannen,

Peanut was just as complimentary,

throughout his life, but mostly for
giviftg him the gift of love, trust and
honor in a sport that requires much
discipline and the heart of a true
