On the 11th hour of the eleventh day.
of the 11th month, they came together
to remember and honor all those who
have served their nation in the armed
forces, and to ask for prayers for the
nation’s Commander in Chief, President
George Bush, and the President-Elect
Barack Obama who will soon be leading
a nation at war on two fronts.
The speaker for Perry’s Veteran’s
Day ceremony was Lt. Col. David
Hutchinson, who spoke of his years as a
pilot, his wartime experiences, and the

Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of
training, Richey studied the
Air Force mission, organiza
tion, and military customs
and courtesies; performed
drill and ceremony march
es, and received physical
training, rifle marksman
ship, field training exer
cises, and special training
in human relations.
In addition, those who
complete basic training
earn credits toward an
associate in applied sci
ence degree through the
Community College of the
Air Force.
He is the son of Ron
Richey of Otis Brown
Road, Baldwin, and Tracey
Surrency of Westward
Point, Kathleen.
Richey is a 2007 gradu
ate of Banks County High
School, Homer.
Navy Seaman Recruit
Joshua J. Beckerman,
brother of Jordan R.
Beckerman of Robins AFB,
recently completed U.S.
Navy basic training at
Recruit Training Command,
Great Lakes, 111.
During the eight-week
program, Beckermay com
pleted a variety of train
ing which included class
room study and practical
instruction on naval cus
toms, first aid, firefighting,
water safety and survival,
and shipboard and aircraft
safety. An emphasis was
also placed on physical fit

of “the greatest generation”, those who
fought in World War 11, and a number of
them stood, receiving warm applause.
He spoke of the need for Americans to
unite in support of the Commander in
Chief in war time, saying that Bush,
whorii he praised for leadership in cri
sis, had not had that courtesy, and he
hoped that Obama would.

the Rev. Billy Key who gave a prayer
which began with Rudyard Kipling’s
poem, “Recessional”, Angela Ford sing
ing “God Bless America” and the Rev.
Thad Haygood, giving the benediction.
Music was provided also by White Stone
