Panther defense caused a fumble inside

One midseason development of
note came at the quarterback spot.
Sophomore Brent Gentry became the
starter for the Crisp game. Scott said
the previous starter, Dardra Ragin, was
playing well, but there was too much
inconsistency and too many turnovers
on offense.
“Brent is very competitive,” said
Scott. “He manages the game well. But
I think Dardra is going to be a good
player for us next year. I think he’s
going to have a great senior season.

“We have a lot of kids coming back
who had to endure this. They have
already indicated to me in one-on-one
meetings how hungry they are to make
sure this doesn’t happen again.”
The list of players who emerged this
year in Scott’s mind is a long one.
There was freshman Jeremy Bogan
at defensive back; Tevin Riley and
Brandon Smith, two rising seniors at
linebacker, Orlando Duggar (junior)
and Larry Whitfield (sophomore) at
defensive guard, junior Cole Bledsoe,
who became an offensive line starter
when Clint Kirk moved to center; and a
pair of rising juniors in Bobby Pulsifer
and Aaron Conaster.
Scott was also proud of how some of
the seniors responded to their roles,

“The thing with any football season,
whether you go 9-4 or 2-8, is you have
to evaluate where you are,” said Scott.
“We’ve already started that as a coach
ing staff. We have to go back to mak
ing sure we don’t beat ourselves, that
we’re a more disciplined football team.
“When you go 2-8, there’s a lot of
things you can fix, but it’s all about
execution. No question it starts in
the weight room and the off-season
conditioning program. Our kids are
excited about getting started, because
you have to win in the off-season in
order to win during the season.”
