Perny HS FFA students place In
tup 10 at natiunal competition
Freshman Edward Moore wins first place

Perry High School FFA
students competed at the
National FFA Convention
held the end of October in
Indianapolis, Ind.
Perry High freshman
Edward Moore was named
the national winner in
Division 1 of the Zoology
category in the National
Agriscience Fair. Team mem
bers Katie Claxton, Cody
Gibbs, Tully Lineberger and
Windy Williford won eighth
in the nation at the National
FFA Meats Evaluation
and Technology Career
Development Event.
Moore’s project focused on
insect control in beef produc
tion; specifically, how com
mon over-the-counter, oil
based test material affects
the skin of cattle. His FFA
advisor is agriculture teach
er Philip Gentry.
For the meats team com
petition, FFA members took
a written exam to test their
knowledge of meat selection,
storage, cooking, nutrition
and safety.
Students identified cuts of
beef, pork or lamb by retail
trade name and prime cut
identification. Participants
become not only better agri
culturalists, but also better
consumers.

team.
