I learned that I’M WORTH IT!
That’s more valuable than any number on the scale...
“I did the challenge because I wanted to change. Period.”
That's what Sadio, an overweight nutritionist and single mom, said about the National Body
Challenge. As a nutritionist, she advocated healthy eating to her clients - but secretly wolfed
down fast food and was a self-confessed sugar addict And when it came to exercising, she
said, “if even the slightest thing came up, I didn’t work out.” She turned to Discovery Health's
sixth annual National Body Challenge to help her change that harmful mindset.
Sadio joins a decadent chef, an aspiring rock star, a former college athlete, a diner waitress
and a lawyer turned stay-at-home mom—who want to overcome lifelong sugar addictions,
reduce their diabetes risk and be around for their children Follow their personal journeys in the
National Body Challenge and cheer for the orange or blue team as health experts help them
tackle individual obstacles. And you’ll meet the Body Challenge doctor, therapist, nutritionist and
personal trainers who pushed them through intensive boot camps and tricky challenges.
It’s easy to lose weight in an
ideal world. But can they do it
in the real one?
Track their progress when they return home
and have to live the challenge in their daily
routines, facing real-world stresses. See who
goes off course despite having the Body
Challenge support team at their disposal.
Who broke up with their bad habits —and
who broke down?
A light bulb moment
Kim, who left a law career to be a full-time
mom, had a moment of realization about her
weight gain one morning when she tried to
pick up her son and realized she could no
longer do this simple task. Even sleeping had
become difficult. Excess weight had taken
its toll on her knees, which hurt all the time.
Kim knows she has to change. But how? She
needs to be able to pick up her son. She wants
to be around to dance at her daughter’s wed
ding and be a better role model for her kids.

Working hard at not working out
Matt, a former college athlete, had a lot of
excuses for not improving his health. “I’m not
lazy,” he said. “I just haven't been doing the
right activities.” Married to a slim vegetarian,
Matt is addicted to "suicide drinks" - a mas
sive concoction of sugary sodas. He wants to
lose weight, but more than that, he wants to
find “the man inside who still feels confident”
under the weight he’s gained.

Rock and roll or crash and burn?
Alex doesn't want his weight to keep him from
fulfilling a dream. He is a musician who hopes
to tour with a rock band. A Body Challenge
doctor told him he had the blood pressure of a
50-year-old man. Alex is just 21. Can
he carry the tools he learned back to his
regular life, and cut back on destructive late
night partying?
...
“Sweets! I’m addicted to sugar.
If it’s sweet, it’s my thing!”
Sad to
Another challenger, Amanda, wants to leave
behind her burgers and fries lifestyle at the
famous Hollywood diner where she works to
pursue bigger dreams. All the challengers
have important things they want to achieve.
And none of them want excessive weight to
stand in their way.
The challenge that could
save her life
For the 16 million Americans with type 2 dia
betes, the diagnosis is crushing. Amy never
expected to be one of them. She’s a decadent
chef whose blood work revealed full-blown
diabetes due in part to excessive weight and
lack of exercise. She was encouraged to hear
that lifestyle changes could potentially reverse
diabetes. Now, she has an even bigger reason
to see this challenge through and take control
of her health.
YOU’RE in control
Sadio, like many people, used to wish for
something magical to happen to her Then
she realized this: "The reality is only YOU can
make the necessary changes to take control
of your life." Making excuses was just another
bad habit she resolved to break Watch which
challengers trade in toxic habits for a healthier
lifestyle in this year’s National Body Challenge.
