18 study of physiology and hygiene in the schools. This law is now on the statute books of Congress, as well as on that of all the states of the Union, some of the provinces of Canada, Chile and other nations. The facts, experiences and scientific knowledge which Mrs. Hunt attained in her long struggle toward this end were found to be of such value that she compiled a book on the subject which the Emperor of Germany has decreed shall be used in the public schools of that empire. The pre-eminent impor tance of her work cannot be over-estimated, and all who hold the cause of abstinence in due regard and reverence should venerate the memory of this woman who did so much to further the fuller recognition of the dangers of strong drink as well as to protect the younger generation from the pitfall of ignorance and indifference. Editor Golden Age:— In your issue of May 10th, you have a strong, sensible and timely edi torial on the liquor question, and its advertisement in the papers we have in our homes for our families to read. I want to endorse the editorial unquali fiedly. It has for years seemed a crime to carry into our families papers which advertise that that will be their ruin unless we use every precaution to pre vent it. Why should this be? Why not as Christians, say to the papers, “If you must support the business and advertise it you can not come into our homes. ’ ’ It is refreshing to know there are papers and individuals who cannot be bought to help the business in any way. A splendid young lady was em ployed by a paper in our town, over three years ago, as a type-setter. A whiskey advertisement was handed her to be set up. She refused to set it up, and left the office. I wish to commend her to every Christian who sets type in this country. Though her fingers were stained by the lead on the type? yet her hands were as clean as an angel’s. No woman ever did a sub limer thing. I wish every Christian would follow her example. Starkville, Miss. M. K. Thornton. TO THE TRUSTEES OF Churches of Every Denomination.
