Passenger Agent, Atlanta, Ga. “In As Much As Ye Did It.” By J. L. D. HILLYER. The words are a part of what the Great Judge shall speak to the right eous on the great day. They are from Matt. 25:41 (Worrell’s translation). ‘‘lnasmuch as ye did it to any one of my brethren, even the least, ye did it to me.” The Lord Jesus was telling his disciples, and telling us what would come to pass at the final judgment. When the dead, small and great, come from their graves, and the battle fields, and the depths of the sea, and shall stand before the Great Judge, some of them will be regenerated people, the rest will be unregenerated. The regenerated ones are called “sheep.” The unregenerated are called “goats.” And before the judgment of rewards takes place these two classes are separated. The sheep on the right hand; the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand: “Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I hungered and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsted and ye gave me drink; naked and ye clothed me; I was sick and ye looked after me; I was in prison and ye came to me.” Then these righteous ones disclaimed the praise bestowed upon them by the Judge, but he gave us the words of our text, and claimed that he was represented in even the least of his servants, and that any act of kindness bestowed upon his representative was bestowed upon him. This is another of those incidental truths coming to us out of the mere frame-work of the Lord’s speeches. The theme of this discourse is the gen eral judgment, but this incidental reference runs back into current practical life, and brings out the close, vital, inevitable relation that every man, wheth er saved or lost, must sustain to the Lord of all the universe. Think of it! Here you are with the Lord Jesus Christ walking the streets of your city; sitting with you in the street cars; bowing with you in the house of God; looking on as you work and as you play; while you eat and en joy your abundance, or sleep on your downy couch. He is here in every condition. In one case he wears the garb of wealth and good taste, which covers a bosom in which there is a breaking heart. Have you ministered to the Lord as lie suffers in that bosom? Again, the Lord is near you in the person of that child of poverty and affliction, whose heart breaks, and whose body quakes; the soul carrying a load of grief of its own, while the body suffers under the needs of the flesh. Clothing is scant, food inadequate, fuel is scarce, and disease racks the body with pain. And Jesus is there suffering it all, because his little one is suf fering. What are you doing about it? Have you seen the suffering of Christ in this “little one” of his, and have you ministered unto him? Then you will surely share in that blessing that the Judge shall bestow on that day. These cases may be regarded as representing both ends of the social line, every other grade of human existence is included between them and Jesus is there covers a bosom in which there is a breaking heart. Have you ministered to load of grief of its own, while the body suffers under the needs of the flesh, all along the line. And Jesus is in touch with that recording angel up yonder, who keeps the “book of remembrance.” Think of this phase. How often it happens that a man of God is given credit, not because he is “good” in a business way, but because he is “a man of God!” Jesus endorses his.notes and accepts his drafts and pays his discount. A big-hearted servant of God takes the notes of his pastor for rent. WAR ON LIQUOR AND TOBACCO. The Kansas Anti-Liquor Society has adopted a new plan to fight the liquor traffic.
