Georgians, Save Tallulah!
By JOHN MILTON SAMPLES.
Georgians, wake and save Tallulah
From the haughty hand of greed!
Keep unmarred her pristine beauty,
Where her poet-soul shall feed!
f .
Let no man destroy her grandeur,
Clothed in nature’s robe of light;
God has given us Tallulah,
Keep her garments pure and white!
Hear her voice so sweet and tender,
Sending forth its joyous lays?
’Tis the soft and silver cadence
Os her whisper’d words of praise.
Nature’s wierd and gentle music!
Melodies beyond compare!
Lifting mind and soul to heaven!
Wooing sweet from life its care!
Who could hear thy voice, Tallulah,
And would bid thy music cease?
Spurn him from thy bounds, O, Geor
gia!
Let him find no rest and peace!
Sordid gold and self he’s seeking,
Caring naught for God and man;
Shame and scorn shall be his portion,
Scorn him as a Georgian can!
Psychologists today hold the opino
ion that the human brain is taught
through the use of the hand. In other
words, it is through the development
of manual dexterity that the faculty
of word-making—upon which all else
depends—is gained. The choice made
in childhood between right hand and
left hand determines which of the two
cerebral hemispheres, the left or the
right, shall be educated.
If the right hand be preferred, as is
usually the case, the left brain —which
controls that member —will acquire
the wordmaking power and all the as
sociated faculties that go to make
up what we call intellect, but if the

SUGGESTIVE THOUGHTS.
What should I do?
I. Bring Christ Into Your Church.
Vs. 1 to 3.
Many churches have Christ on
the outside knocking and asking
for admittance. (Rev. 3-20.) If
this is true in your Church, open the
door and let Jesus come in, and it will
soon be noised abroad that Jesus is
there, and the people will gather there
and men and women having friends in
need of Jesus will bring them to your
Church to find Jesus.

Loyal, patriotic Georgians,
Rise and crush the traitor low!
Who would seek to harm Tallulah,
He‘s our Georgia’s vilest foe!
He shall harm thee not, Tallulah,
While thy song shall fill our ears,
For we love thy pealing anthems
Sounding o’er the tomb of years.
List! She thunders dread defiance
As she hears the traitor’s voice;
How she thrills the heart of Georgia,
Making all her vales rejoice!
Crystal waters of her fountain
Flowing soft and cool and free,
Georgia loves your gentle murmur,
Singing of the surging sea.
Kissed by floods of silver sunlight,
Mirrored on your virgin breast,
Vying with the hues of heaven
Rich and pure and nobly drest!
Ah! we love you yet, Tallulah,
As your silver waters roll;
Thou art Georgia’s pride forever,
Thrilling deep her poet-soul!

Dr. W. H. Thomson, in his book on
Brain and Personality, says that if the
speech-center in the left brain of a
right-handed man be destroyed or se
riously injured, he will never there
after be able to utter a word, notwith
standing the fact that he has another
speech-center, still intact and struc
turally perfect, in his right brain. It
exists, but he can not make it talk.
Either brain is equally good for
speech if trained for that purpose. It
is the child’s choice of the hand that
decides which cerebral hemisphere in
certain methods. This ought not to
be so. The great work the Master bid
us do is to lead men to Christ. There
for, we ought to change methods and
use any method that will enable us to
accomplish what the Master bid us do.
If one door is locked try another; and
if no ordinary way is open, make a
new extraordinary way. Tear up the
roof, make a new departure; do any
thing rather than let men and women
go down to hell.
111. Don’t Block the Door. V. 2.
This door was blocked because the
house was full. Many church doors
are blocked and yet the houses are
nearly empty. In fact, this class of
churches usually have their doors
blocked, some by tradition, some by
certain forms of worship, some by un
clean and corrupt men in charge of
the affairs of the church, some by
critics, and many by their lack of sym
pathy with Christ in the salvation of
men.

after life shall know speech and which
shall be wordless forever.
In discussing the connection between
speech and the hand, it is interesting
to observe that in the brain the ‘‘mo
tor areas” governing the hands are
close by the area that controls the
tongue and the muscles of articulation.
Here, apparently in a small patch of
gray matter no larger than a hazle
nut, is stored every word that can be
spoken. Let it be badly injured and
speechlessness results.
In many instances persons have been
struck with word-blindness —that is to
say, though still able to see, to speak
and to understand what was said to
them, they could not find any meaning
in the words on a printed page.
Equally interesting are cases of word
deafness, where people can not under
stand what is said, though they are
able to read and write as well as ever.

Just byway of changing the pro
gram, two sailors, recently returned
from a voyage, decided to have dinner
together in a fashionable case. They
scanned the menu carefully.
‘‘Le’s stow some o’ this consommy,”
said the leader of the adventure to the
waiter.
“What is consommy?” asked the
other sailor.
‘‘lt’s a Dago word for soup,” his ex
perienced shipmate assured him. A
few minutes later the consomme ar
rived.
“Huh,” sneered the ignorant one,
‘‘we been sailin’ on soup all our lives
an’ didn’t know it.”

Two hunters, returning from the
Catskills, decided to try some New
York City humor upon the agent of a
little railroad station in the foothills.
“When does the 3:49 train get in?”
asked one.
The old man regarded him seriously
and at length. ‘‘Wall,” said he, “she
generally gets in just a leetle behind
the engine.”
Later they approached him respect
fully. “About time that trains is due,
isn’t it, Uncle?”
Master did not say anything about the
palsied man’s faith, but spoke of the
faith of the four men that brought him
to Jesus. The man himself no doubt
had faith, but there is no mention of
it, but the emphasis is laid upon the
faith of the men who brought him to
Jesus. The great truth is here taught
us, that we can exercise faith in be
half of somebody else and secure their
healing and pardon, even as this man
was healed in response to the faith
exercised by the four men for him.
This principle is taught everywhere
in the Bible. Let us look at a few
instances where healing was received
through the faith of others than the
person healed.
Ist. The Centurion’s servant heal
ed. (Matt. 8-5 to 13.) Jesus said to
him, “As thou hast believed, so be it
done unto thee .” (V. 13.) Not a word
is said about the servant’s faith.
2. The Syro-Phoenicean woman’s
daughter healed. (Matt. 15-21 to 28.)
Jesus said unto her, ‘‘O, woman, great
is thy faith.” (V. 28.) The daughter’s
faith is not mentioned.
3rd. Jairus’ daughter raised. (Luke
‘‘Yes,” said the agent, “she’s about
due. There comes the conductor’s
dog.”

Owing to fog, a steamer stopped in
the mouth of a river. An old lady
inquired of the captain the cause of
the delay.
“Can’t see up the river,” replied the
officer.
‘‘But, captain, I can see the stars
overhead,” she argued.
“Yes,” said the captain gruffly, ‘‘but
until the boilers bust we ain’t a-goin’
that way.”

DELICIOUS HOT SODA-BISCUIT.
Realizing that many good house
wives would like a recipe for making
biscuit which would remove possibility
of their using either too much or too
little soda, we are glad to publish the
following directions:
First, pour the sour milk to be used
in making up a batch of bread in a
vessel, then add soda and stir thor
oughly. If the foam stands on top
similar to whipped cream, enough
soda has been added; if it boils up
you have too much soda. In that case,
add a little more milk. Follow this
plan and you will always use the right
quantity of soda. It makes no differ
ence how strong the soda, or how sour
the milk. The amount of soda neces
sary is governed by the acidity of the
milk.
Because of its FRESHNESS and
PTTRITY, ONE-FOURTH LESS of
EAGLE-THISTLE BRAND SODA is re
quired than of other brands. It is
packed at the mill direct into perma
nent, air-tight, moisture-proof, sanitary
packages, which preserve its ORIGI
NAL STRENGTH and PURITY until
opened in the kitchen for use. Every

The professional faultfinder is al
ways present when God is working.
He is the devil’s agent. Don’t be one.
See the good and praise the good work
and don’t seek to find flaws. Any one
can find fault. It does not require re
ligion or brains to be a faultfinder.
But it requires both to do a great
work.
