LITTLE SISTER,
The Oklahoma Girl.
LOST EDEN.
We’ve all of us dwelt in Eden —
The Eden that Adam knew,
When he dwelt in the Golden Garden
He and his lady too.
When the skylark sang at sunrise,
And the thrush in the dusk and
dew,
And the Serpent’s tongue was holden
And his head concealed from view!
We have all sojourned in Eden;
We have felt the magic spell
That gladdened the earth aforetime
And the bliss unspeakable;
But we sigh as our thoughts go back
ward,
And our hearts are seamed and sore,
For the fruit of the tree was tempt
ing—
And we dwell therein no more!
We’ve all of us dwelt in Eden,
We have breathed it’s scented air,
And hand in hand have loitered
In the gracious greenness there.
And we dreamed we should bide for-
ever,
In a fairer world than this,
But the Serpent stole upon us
And we heard his hateful hiss.
Ah, yes we have lived in Eden, —
The Eden that Adam knew;
The scoffers may call it fiction,
We know it is wholly true.
For Eden is one with Childhood,
And the Serpent’s name is Sin;
But we ate of the fruit forbidden,
And we dwell no more therein!

they bear the poisonous blossom that

111. Consider the Field. V. 38.
In the first parable the soil or field
was the hearts of men, in this one the
world is the field. Jesus says: “As
thou has sent Me into the world, even
so have I also sent them into the
world.” (John 17:18) He has sent
the sons of the Kingdom into all the
world. (Mark 16:15 and 16.) The
world is “His Field.” (Psalm 24:1.)
The devil does not own one inch of
ground. He sows his seed in anoth
er’s field. While the Church sleeps,
the devil is busy planting his seed in
the field that belongs to Christ and
the sons of the Kingdom. Sleepy
headiness causes the Church to fail
to appreciate and take advantage of
her opportunities to win men for the
Kingdom. While the Church sleeps
the devil is wide awake, doing his
deadly work. He never sleeps—not
even in Church.
IV. Consider the Harvest. Vs. 29
to 43.
The Kingdom is not the Church and
the field is not the Church. There
fore the words, “Let both grow to
gether until the harvest,” does not re
fer to Church discipline. The harvest
is the end of the age. The wicked
and the good will go on in the world
to the end. Some will be getting bet
ter and some getting worse. The
King is coming and will send forth
His angels and gather out of His King
dom all things that offend and them
that do iniquity: And cast them into
the furnace of fire. When these sons
of evil have been taken out, “Then
shall the righteous shine forth as the
sun in the Kingdom of their Father.”
During this age the sons of the evil
one shine.
V. Consider How the Sons of Evil
Can Be Made Sons of the Kingdom:
These sons of evil can be made sons
of the Kingdom by receiving Jesus the
King into their hearts. So, let us go
with the message to all men. (Col. 1:
13; I Peter 2:9; II Cor. 5:17 to 21.)
