Distorted Vision and Ministry Touch
(Continued from Page Two.)
Finally, what is all this for? It is
that we may receive the second
touch, and have our eyes clear. There
are three things that we must do that
we may have clear eyes.
First, realize the lack. No man will
ever receive more than he realizes he
needs. Just so long as you feel that
you do not lack any special eye
touch, that all you need perhaps is
time for study, or perhaps books, or
schooling, just so long as this is true
of you, there is nothing that our Lord
can teach you.
Second, acknowledge Jesus as Lord.
Many a man has kept away from full
spiritual vision, because he does not
acknowledge Jesus as Lord; he may
say it with his lips, but not deep down
in his heart. Before there can be any
clear vision, Jesus has got to become
Lord absolutely of our lives. That is
to say, we have got to reach the place
where w r hen Jesus says “Go,” we will
go —it makes no difference where or
how.
Third, appropriate the promise of
the Spirit. A man saved, has eternal
life, but there is something else be
yond salvation. There is the gift of
the Spirit, equipping for service in
life. The disciples themselves expe
rienced this. They were converted
men before the day of Pentecost, for
Jesus said to them, “Ye are clean, but
not all; for He knew who should be
tray Him.” But He told those men
to tarry in Jerusalem until they were
endued with power from on high.
Salvation is the first step, but there
is the after-equipment of the Spirit,
when, as a saved soul, we look to the
Holy Ghost, the third person of the
Godhead, the One representing the
Godhead on the earth in the establish
ment of the kingdom,—in charge of the
work and the workers. When we re
ceive Him to be our guide and stand
by er our eyes are made clear; we no
MISS CRANE’S CHANCE
(Continued from Page 3.)
They all laughed, for the literal ren
dering of the tramp’s prayer was ap
parent —and perhaps, something divin
er far, was also in evidence. The gen
tlemen lifted their hats, but Miss
Crane, with a gesture of command to
the colored chaffeur, lingered by the
tonneau just long enough to say, kind
ly and graciously: “Thanks for your
escort, gentlemen. And please don’t
forget that we dine tonight, at eight
o’clock.”
Nell was standing alone on the
great porch, when her aunt joined
her; Mrs. More having politely excus
ed herself, and vanished. They en
tered the front door together, and Nell
glanced through the grand domain
with unassuming interest. The vel
vet brocade curtains were all rolled
back today, and the folding doors were
nowhere in evidence, only the gleam
of the white pillars showed in the
division of the great parlors, with
here and there the glow and color of
a rare painting on the frescoed walls,
or the gleam of some exquisite piece
of statuary in niche or corner, to give
relief to the sombre lines of mahogany
furniture upholstered in rich, dark
velvet.
“How magnificent!” the girl ex
claimed, with enthusiasm, “and yet
how perfectly lovely. Only think
how gloriously easy it will be to en
tertain all your friends. Oh! I am
so glad for you!” she continued, as
The Golden Age for November 28, 1912,
longer see men as trees; we see with
clear sight.
Will you embrace by faith, —in the
quiet of this hour —the promise of the
Spirit? That He may come, actually,
with all His fullness and equip you
with power that is not your own;
enable you to see as you never saw
before; enable you to see God about
you, as you never saw Him before;
enable you to see God in your fellows,
as you never saw Him before; enable
you to see Him in the Bible, as you
never saw Him before? Will you do
it?
Practical Points.
Now, let us draw’ from all this a
few practical points.
(1) Every man is his brother’s
keeper.
This man was brought to Jesus by
his friends, he never would have got
ten his sight had it not been for them.
There is somebody that you can bring
to Jesus.
(2) No man can be carried further
than Jesus.
It is well for us to remember that!
There are a great many Christian
workers thaf are trying to carry peo
ple past Jesus. Now, you stop when
you get to Jesus; you cannot go any
further. Bring your man to Jesus,
and let Jesus deal with. him. This is
as far as we can go in personal work.
(3) “Men as trees” is sight; but
not full sight.
(4) When vision is not sure, truth
is obscure.
(5) Partial sight is for seeking,
not seeing. No use to go groping
around with partial sight; it is not
for that. If you have partial sight,
it is not to live by; it is that you may
seek for more.
(6) Salvation is not full vision; we
need the second touch, the gift of the
Spirit.
she turned to her aunt, and put her
arms impulsively around her neck.
“It is such a grand old home, I am
sure that you are going to be very
happy in it, after a time when you
learn how to think of your friend,”
she continued, with a solemn sweet
ness, “as just gone away into another
room of the Father’s many mansions.”
“Perhaps after a long, long time,'
Miss Crane’s voice faltered, “But, at
least it gives me,” she continued in
a more confident tone, “the greatest
possible consolation to have you, Nell,
in my life again, on a basis broad and
beautiful enough to make you stay.”
“Are you sure that you have clip
ped the wings of your birdling, Aunt
Caro?” the girl queried, with a mis
chievous light in her blue-grey eyes.
“You know it is perfectly possible that
I have not resigned, and that I have
come back simply on a vacation ba
sis?”
“Never, Nell, never!” Miss Crane
returned, with agitated emphasis. “I
will not believe it. You are all I have
got left in the world, and if you are
too proud to stay with me, like my
daughter, you shall stay as my finan-
