NEWS FROM THE WORKERS
A Real Thanksgiving Letter
Dear Readers of The Golden Age:
Greetings in Jesus’ precious name at
this national Thanksgiving time.
“Glory and honor and praise and pow
er and dominion be unto the Lamb
forever, for He is worthy.”
What a privilege, to have naught else
to do, but live for the Lord, work for
the Lord; enjoy Him, praise Him and
use our strength to prove our love for
Him by exerting every effort to bring
others to His blessed feet.
Some time ago we told you through
the columns of The Golden Age of our
needs and of how God was blessing
and making Himself manifest at Elh
anan. We are glad to report He is still
the same, “today as yesterday and
forever.” Praise Him, He is making
true His promises and is supplying
our every need according to His rich
es. He has given us these dear or
phans and is daily putting it into the
hearts of His children to help us.
The devil fully realizes that this
place is of signal importance in op
posing his cause and kingdom, and is
therefore fighting us hard. He gives
us little rest night or day. He is
striking in all directions —especially
at the heart of the institution. He
tries to get between the workers and
their duty as well as between the
students, and between students and
workers to stir up misunderstandings
and strife. But this is his accustomed
work so we are keeping much in pray
er, watching for him in whatever
guise and striving to bind ourselves
together in unison of purpose and di
vine love, too strongly to be serious
ly impaired by his attacks.
And God is wonderfully answering
prayer and giving victory, praise Him!
For some reason unseen by us, God
in His infinite wisdom, mercy and

SUGGESTIVE THOUGHTS.
What Should I do?
I.—Enter into the Kingdom of
Heaven. Vs. 1 to 3.
The disciples put this question to
Jesus, “Who is the greatest in the
Kingdom of heaven?” The Master
showed to them that there was a far
more important question for them to
consider, which was, will I be in the
Kingdom? This is an important ques
tion for us all to consider. Are you
sure that you will be in the King
dom of heaven? If you are not, then
don’t rest until this question is set
tled. The Master said to them, “Ex
cept ye be converted and become as
little children, ye shall not enter into
the Kingdom of heaven.” Again in
Mark 10:15 the Master said, “Verily
I say unto you, whosoever shall not
receive the Kingdom of God as a
little child, he shall not enter there
in.” There are only two ways of re
ceiving a Kingdom or becoming a citi
zen of a Kingdom. One is naturali
zation and the other is by birt£, The

SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON
goodness has suffered the evil one to
lay his hand on the body of our be
loved Sister and principal nurse
Mattie Perry, as He did on Job
of old, and for almost two weeks
she has been confined to her
room and most of the time to her bed,
with nervous prostration. At times her
strength has been so small that it
seemed she was going to slip away
and leave us in spite of all we could
do. The great strain of being respon
sible for the support of a family of
seventy or more, the suspense of not
knowing often where the next meal
was coming from, the other pressing
financial demands, the exacting cred
itors and the indifferent debtors, all
these, proved too much for her, and
she has been compelled to relinquish
all, and resort to absolute quiet. No
one being allowed to see her except
those needed to administer to her
comfort.
Friends and neighbors and even the
business men are very kind, sym
pathetic and thoughtful, for which she
and we are grateful.
We can not understand why she,
whom God has so marvelously used
to establish this great and noble work
and to conduct it these fourteen years
should be so stricken down and shut
in when the work seems to need her
most. Yet it is not ours to question,
but ours to accept, to obey and to
praise Him who doeth all things
well. We know He has a purpose in
allowing this affliction to come, and
we are trusting and praising Him in
and through it all.
Dear readers, pray for us, that God
may surely work out His own will and
have His own way in our lives and
in the institution and that we may be
all that God can make of us; that we
little child becomes a citizen of a
Kingdom by birth only and the Mas
ter teaches us that the only way for
us to get into the Kingdom of heaven
is to be born again. (John 3:5). Paul
teaches us this same truth in Ist Cor.
15:50, “Now this I say, brethren, that
flesh and blood cannot inherit the
Kingdom of God.” By flesh and blood
we can only inherit from our parents
that of which they died siezed and
possessed. Flesh and blood never
owned the Kingdom of God and there
fore by virtue of this relationship we
cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.
But if we are born of the spirit, we are
the children of God. (Rom 8:14 to
17). The child can inherit from his
parent. Therefore by virtue of our
new birth and new relationship we
can inherit and enter into the King
dom of heaven.
ll.—Be Great in the Kingdom of
Heaven. Vs. 4.
If we would be great in the King
dom of heaven we must be humble.
To humble oneself is to choose the
low place for self, the place where one
can do God’s will and serve others.
The lower you put yourself, the high
er God will put you. (Luke 14:11;
Matt. 20:26 and 27; Matt. 23:11 and
12; Phil. 2:6 to 11). Jesus gave us a
beautiful illustration of who is great
est in the Kingdom of heaven, at the
institution of the Lord’s supper. (John
13:1 to 16.) The Master here taught
that the greatest in the Kingdom of

may not in any measure thwart His
plan for us by getting feverishly anx
ious for the things we want or by get
ting out of our place, or running
ahead of His spirit.
Though we must be deprived of Sis
ter Mattie for awhile yet we still have
our Lord, and He is certainly blessing
us in many ways, and the work is
moving on nicely.
The students are learning fast in
school, the general health of “the fam
ily” is good and our needs are being
supplied by Him who has promised to
be a father to the orphan.
Help us praise Him, for we have
much to make it a true Thanksgiving
time.
Please pray with us and for us,
that Sister Mattie may soon be restor
ed to health if His name can be most
glorified thereby. Yours, lost in the
desire to be and do, the greatest good
in the shortest time, to the greatest
number possible, and thus to glorify
Him daily.

IV. —Seek to save the Lost. Vs. 10

Jesus came into this world to seek
and to save the Lost. (Luke 10:10).
He says that we are in this world for
the same purpose. (John 17:18; John
20:21.) As you stand before your
class be sure to remember this and
seek to save the lost ones of your
class.
