A full pint of cough syrup—as much
as you could buy for s2’.sO—can easily
be made at home. You will find nothing
that takes hold of an obstinate cough
more quickly, usually ending it inside of
24 hours. Excellent, too, for croup,
whooping cough, sore lungs, asthma,
hoarseness and other throat troubles.
Mix one pint of granulated sugar with
% pint of warm water, and stir for 2
minutes. Put 2V 2 ounces of Pinex (fifty
cents’ worth) in a pint bottle, then add
the Sugar Syrup. It keeps perfectly.
Take a teaspoonful every one, two or
three hours.
This is just laxative enough to help
cure a cough. Also stimulates the appe
tite, which is usually upset by a cough.
The taste is pleasant,
The effect of pine and sugar syrup on
the inflamed membranes is well known.
Pinex is the most valuable concentrated
compound of Norway white pine extract,
rich, in guaiacol and all the natural
healing pine elements. Other prepara
tions will not work in this formula.
The Pinex and Sugar Syrup recipe is
now used by thousands of housewives
throughout the United States and Can
ada. The plan has been imitated, but
the old successful formula has never
been equaled.
A guaranty of absolute satisfaction, or
money promptly refunded, goes with this
recipe. Your drugo-ist has Pinex, or will
get it for you. If not, send to The

which in this age of specialism, is
much needed. As such education is
relatively new and experience in it
is as yet limited, it is difficult to desig
nate a prepartory course. I have my
self followed the course of study just
indicated, but more extensively es
pecially in medical lines, but such ad
ditional preparation might not be
practicable for most students.
I enclose leaflet entitled, “Study of
Man,’’ which explains the work more
fully, and I shall be glad to mail it to
any student gratis, who will send me
his address. As I have said in this
leaflet, “Criminals, paupers, mattoids
and other defectives are social bacil
li, which require as thorough scien
tific investigation, as the bacilli of phy
sical diseases.’’
I beg leave to remain,
Most faithfully,

and besides he considered the well

a snob, either because his view point
was broader than his his sister’s, or his
business training had made him more
democratic in his sympathies.
The auto party was limited and ex

complacently, as she reclined in a big
willow rocking chair, between the two
couples, on the moonlit veranda. She
was broader than his sister’s, for his
young people were saying, but still
she might have been only simulating
indifference, for, if she did care for
anything on earth, besides herself, it
was her brother. The young man

to turn the conversation into a graver
channel. She had her own reasons
for wishing to find out Hall Carrol’s
real character; for, in his artistic way,
he was making it unmistakably evi

“Does the mystery of life, Mr. Car

after a long pause, as she looked out
dreamily toward the waves rippling in
the moonlight.
“Why the enigma of the universe,

I am a scientific optimist, I do not al
