NOT A DAY IN BED.
Gramling, S. C.—ln a letter from
Gramling, Mrs. Lula Walden says: “I
was so weak before I began taking
Cardui that it tired me to walk just a
little. Since taking it, I do all the
housework for my family of nine, and
have not been in bed a day. Cardui
is the greatest remedy for women on
eraht.” Weak women need Cardui. It
is the ideal woman’s tonic, because it
is especially adapted for women’s
needs. It relieves backache, head
ache, dragging feelings, and other fe
male misery. Try Cardui. A few do
ses will show you what it can do for
you. It may be just what you want.
There is plenty of joy to go ’round,
you know,
To see this you’re just about bound,
you know,
For the truth of it’s easily found —
and so
It is foolish to envy the chap who’s
arrived,
For the thing is so sweetly and neatly
contrived,
That although you’re still climbing
while he is on top —
If you’ll simply keep going and scorn
the word “stop,”
Why, you’ll get there at last,
And his hour may be past
When yours is just found,
Oh yes, I’ll be bound
That the doctrine’s quite sound —
There is plenty of joy to go ’round.
There is plenty of work to go ’round
you know,
And your share can be easily found,
you know,
If to do your part you feel quite bound
and go
A-looking for work that you only can
do,
Or a-fitting your task if your task
won’t fit you,

Miss Mattie Perry, the “Little Mother”
of Elhanan.
ON October of last year we told
our readers some things about
the wonderful work of Miss
Mattie Perry of Elhanan, North Caro
lina, in her Training Institute and
Orphanage, which is located at this pic
turesque little mountain town just a
little way from Marion N. C.
But recently The Golden Age office
was honored by a visit from this frail
in body, but giant in faith, exemplify
cation of “my grace is sufficient for
thee.” And it was a blessing which
we feel ought to be passed on and
on to every corner of the earth.
So sweet of spirit is Miss Perry
and yet so positive is her trust in the
Father that we could not but feel the
benediction of her presence and when
she had gone a consciousness of im
parted strength for the solving of our
own problems that made us know this
dear gifted woman was not fighting
her battles alone, but was leaning with
a like faith of the patriarchs on the
arm es a lovel and omnipotent Father.
The Golden Age for May 29, 1913
Conducted by MRS. G. B. LINDSEY
“THERE IS PLENTY OF JOY TO GO
’ROUND."
All the while sternly striving to get to
the top,
Where the joy of arriving is not that
you stop.
When you get there at last,
You will find work’s not past;
But the secret is found
That we rise from the ground
By the weakness we’ve downed —•.
There is plenty of joy to go ’round.
Yes, there’s plenty of joy to go ’round,
my lad;
By the beauty of striving you’re
bound, my lad;
When your task and your duty are
found, be glad.
You’ll know when you’re working with
might and with will,
When you’re seeking for power each
task to fulfill,
That there’s pleasure in climbing—no
thought of the goal;
That there’s joy in just doing your
work, heart and soul.
So you’re sure to arrive,
And be keenly alive
To the bliss that is found
In the garb of work gowned.
Thus your labor is crowned —
And there’s plenty of joy to go ’round.
—Exchange.
I only wish it were possible to give
you in detail all of the truly miracu
lous accounts of God’s answers to
prayer in her work as she gave them
to us, and the many glorious results
of the work already done, together
with her far-reaching plans for the fu
ture, which she is asking God for
means to carry through.
But since we cannot give you all, we
are going to let her tell you in her
own words how and why she has be
come the “Little Mother,” as they often
call her, of scores of homeless cast
outs who under God she has been en
abled to develop into splendid Chris
tian young men and women fully equip
ped to honor God with their lives and
influence.
Can you imagine a greater work?
Do you want a part in this great
string of jewels for the Master?
“Sister Mattie,” telling of the work,
she said in part, “1 am a farmer’s
daughter, born of Christian parents. At
a very early age I gave myself to
God and thought I was called to be a
missonary to China, but soon found
by my Father’s showing me there was
work nearer home, that I had heard
the command, “Go ye,” but it had
meant to my own brothers and sisters
and neighbors at my door. I told
them of Jesus and many were led to
His feet. Praying and studying as I
went about my work, with the desire
for an education burning in my heart,
I knocked twice at the door of col
leges, but was refused because of an
empty purse.
At last the door opened. My pas
tor wrote me to come to Williamstown
Female College at an expense of $2.50
per week, but I could not pay that, so
he took a collection among the stu
dents amounting to $25 and wrote me
to come on. I started with a heart
full of rejoicing faith ond only two
dollars and a half in my purse. But
