Vacations up in the Mountains
How does that strike you? Are you
looking for a cool, quiet nook hid
away from the noise and rush of the
heated icty, where you can just forget
to think even, and yet have all the
conveniences of the city?
Just read Rev. H. F. Clark’s own
description of “Cherokee Cottage,
nestling up among the mountain oaks,
rippling streams and invigorating
breezes of Blue Ridge and see if it
doesn’t give you the mountain vaca
tion fever.”
Mr. Clark says:
“The cottage is a very pleasant,
roomy one with verandas all around,
both upstairs and down. It is situated
in a grove of natural oaks, and on a
high hill which has been leveled for
a school ground, and here we can al
ways find cool spots on the hottest
days. We have city hydrant water
from 600 feet above the town and also
have a well 130 feet deep of fine, cool
water.
While on the edge of town, we still
have restful quiet and the advantages
GOD’S BEAUTIFUL WORLD.
When I last wrote I was having the
pleasure of attending a revival meet
ing. Again, I have had such a pleas
ure. At the Baptist church in our
I own we are having an interesting se
ries of sermons. A friend of former
j ears came and invited us to attend
the meetings and they have been very
much enjoyed.
The people of our town are very
kindly disposed to each denomination
and there are very few among us who
do not !- elong to some church. The
children jo n almost from infancy, so
with meetings every year in the dif
ferent churches, there are not many
accessions at a time, but we older
members need reviving and refresh
ing, so the sermons do much good.
Some of our sweetest and most
beautiful flowers are now in bloom:
Oleanders, myrtle, lilies, gladiolas,
roses, annuals of various kinds, pan
sies and geraniums. The white olean
ders bloom nearly all summer and
while I sit on the veranda and enjoy
them, an old song learned in child
hood comes to my mind:
“In the sweet fields of Eden,
When the tree of life is blooming
There is rest for the weary,
There is rest for you.”
Surely it is restful these warm June
days to sit on our cool verandas and
to see these pure white flowers. A
little pet green lizard shows his red
knife as he crawls .from limb to limb,
but we let h m alone and he does no
harm. The wild ferns planted under
one of these trees near the hydrant
constantly reminds us of the dear
country and our strolls in the woods,
especially when our pet birds come to
dr’nk from the vessel we keep there
for their refreshment. Jay birds,
mocking bird? 5 red birds, thrushes,
wrens, sparrows’and Mrs. Henapin and
her chicks refresh themselves there.
The cruel cat, however, hides near by
and the j'ay quarrels noisily with her,
especially when she takes her kittens
out for a stroll. The pretty little yel-

of the country. Electric light, tele,
phone, nearness to good doctors, to
churches, and to two lines of railroad
takes that shut-off feeling that gener
ally attends a cottage resort in the
mountains.
There are splendid graded and sur
faced roads leadmg out from the town
in several directions, and the drives
are beautiful along the.rivers.
For those who like a GAY resort
this would be too quiet. But we have
pianos, and there is room for croquet
or tennis, a pleasant living room for
evening gatherings, and those who
wish to rest and take life easy, to
swing in a hammock under the trees
and recuperate, it is just the place.
The grounds are sufficiently large to
be private and pleasant, and we have
good home made butter and milk, mak
ing it a delightful place for children.”

Vegetables are at hand and there is

Our social meetings are refreshing
and the studies inspiring. In our new
book on China we will learn what
Christianity is doing forth s great
country. In looking over the pictures
in the book we see the sense of the
Chinese in wearing loose garments.
Foot binding is not as common with
them as heretofore, and many of their
heathenish customs are being aban

for improvement are being built.

THE PAPER MISSION.
Brother B. A. Loving, superintend
ent of the Paper Mission, at Woodward,
Okla., is doing a fine work.
In addition to his regular missionary
activities, which are fruitful of much
good, he has been the means of the
distribution of quantities of good lit
erature among familes in the west.
In th : s work he requests the prayers
and co-operation of Christians every
where.
Those of you who are burdened
sometimes with a supply of reading
matter will find it difficult to realize
that many families are destitute in
this respect, actually hungry for some
good literature.
Here is a fine opportunity for Wo
men’s Missionary Societies, Y. W. C.
A.’s and individual friends to help in
a good cause. A postal addressed to
Mr. Long requesting information will
bring more interesting details and
names and addresses of families where
the papers may be sent.
This seems a very simple thing, .
yet life is made up of little things
and just such little things often being
great blessings.

Relief For Rupture
Without Operation
No Big Expense—No Time Lost From Work
No Misery-Causing Belts or Leg-Straps
60 Days Trial to Prove It
Operation for rupture would hardly
ever be heard of if it weren’t for the
mischief done by elastic and spring
trusses.
Mighty few people ever have to be
operated on when first ruptured.
But wearing makeshift trusses year
after year is sooner or later almost sure
to make work for the surgeon.
You know that from your own experience
—you know you’re worse now than a year
ago—probably getting worse all the time.
If you keep on that way, how long will it
be before you’ll have to undergo a dangerous
and expensive operation?
Aren’t you willing to let us prove —by a
sixty-day demonstration how you can save
yourself from all that?
Especially when you can make this sixty
day test without having to risk a penny ?
Won’t Cost You A Cent
If It Doesn’t Stand the Test
Here is something —a guaranteed rupture
holder—which has saved thousands of people
from ever having to be operated on.
It has so thoroughly proved its merits that
we are willing to send it on 60-days trial.
We’ll make it especially for your case —
make it to your measure —and practically
lend it to you just for a test.
If it doesn’t keep your rupture from com
ing out or bothering you in any way, no
matter how hard you work or strain —if it
doesn’t prove every claim we make—then
you can send it back and it won’t cost you a
single penny.
Will You Spend Two Cents
To Find Out?
We don’t want you to send any money. All
we ask you to spend is the price of a two-cent
stamp in writing for our big free book —that
■will tell you everything you want to know.
It shows how our guaranteed rupture holder—
the famous Cluthe Automatic Massaging Truss
—is so utterly different from everything else for
rupture that it has received eighteen separate
patents. How it is made on an absolutely new
principle. How it is seif-regulating, self-adjust
ing. How it instantly and automatically pro
tects you against every strain so your rupture
can’t possibly be forced out. And how in ad-
dition it provides the only way ever discovered
for overcoming the weakness which is the real
cause of rupture —and how it does all that en
tirely automatically.
The book tells how our guaranteed rupture
holder is so strengthening and beneficial that
physicians in all parts of America now recom
mend it instead of advising operation. How
it has completely cured thousands of people
whose cases seemed almost hopeless. How it
does away with the curse of belts, leg-straps,
and springs. How it is water-proof and will
hold in the bath. How it is perspiration-proof
and easily kept clean. . How you can try it
sixty days without having to risk a penny,
and how little it costs if you keep it.
This Free Book Is Full of Facts
Never Before Put in Print
There are so many mistaken ideas about
rupture and what to do fur it that we have
taken the time to sum up in this book all we
have learned during forty years of experience.
You’ll find it full of facts never before put
in print.
It shows just why elastic and spring trusses
are the ruptured man’s worst enemies why
they are almost sure to shorten your life or
make operation necessary—why the law
should put a stop to their sale.
It exposes the humbug “appliances,’*
“methods,” “plasters,” ete.
It explains why operation is nearly always
a needless gamble with death—and why, even
if you manage to live through it, you may
have to keep on wearing a truss.
It shows why sixty-days trial is the only
way in the world you can make absolutely
sure of anything for rupture and how the
Cluthe Truss is the only thing you can get on
such a long trial because the only thing good
enough to stand a day-after-day test.
Don’t fail to get this book—don’t put it off
-—the minute it takes you to write for it may
free you from trouble for the rest of your
life. Just use the coupon or simply say in
a letter or postal “Send me your book.”
