Character Comes by Christian Educa
tion-Salvation by The Grace of God.
EVANGELIST FRANK WELLS.
Soul-winning is the first work a
church should engage in. Then edu
cate her new converts in the things
of God and the Bible. Sinners are
saved by grace through faith in
Jesus Christ, the sacrifice of God for
sin. Salvation or eternal life, lies in
the Bon. The sinner or unsaved man
obtains salvation or eternal life by
accepting the Son. He that hath the
Son hath eternal life. He that hath
not the Son hath not eternal life or
salvation. The Holy Spirit leads the
sinner to confess his sins to God.
with a Godly sorrow for sin. This is
repentance. Repentance precedes
Faith. In this condition of mind and
heart the Holy Spirit enables the re
penting sinner to accept the Son in
the pardon and forgiveness of his
sins. Then, and not until then, does
he have salvation. Then he is saved.
This is Redemption. His life is then
redeemed from destruction. He is a
new creature in Christ Jesus. This
is salvation by grace, and it is a gift
from God. It is not by education,
neither is it by “character.” The sin
ner, the very moment he accepted
Christ may not have had any educa
tion or character either. Neither one
is needed in order for him to accept
Christ; but repentance toward God
with a Godly sorrow for sin is need
ed before he can accept the Son
Jesus Christ. There is no such thing
as salvation by education or charac
ter. All well informed, regenerated
Bible teachers know it. You never

NEWS FROM THE WORKERS
By REV. A. C, WARD, D.D.
THE GOLDEN AGE FOR WEEK OF SEPT. 11
hear anybody teach that the natural
birth comes by education or by char
' acter. Why should they teach that
the second-birth which is salvation,
which is redemption, which is regen
eration, comes by education or char
acter?
Because he is saved by Grace he
should now join the church anl be
baptised. Christ, his Savior, com
mands it. Not to do this is sinful
and dangerous to Christian useful
ness. Christian education should now
begin with the new r member, and the
church and her members set apart
for this work should dispense it.
This is Christian education, the only
kind the new member needs in order
to have both education and charac
ter. Mental development, heart-cul
ture and soul growth are all included
ia Christian education. The more of
this kind of education a man has, the
more fertile is his mind, the more
tender is his heart, and the larger
and more mellow is his soul. The
heart and soul of a converted man are
just as susceptable of Christian edu
cation as his brain. Character in
its true sense is obtained by Christ
ian education. I saw this clearly il
lustrated a dozen or more times while
I was an army Chaplain in the Phil
lippines. Character comes by Christ
ian education. Salvation comes by
the Grace of God.
