A DOCTOR’S ENDORSEMENT.
Physicians as a rule are rather slow to
endorse proprietary remedies, but they are
quick to recognize real merit and often
give their highest endorsement to a pre
paration by prescribing it in their prac
tice. Dr. M. L. Fielder, Eclectic P. 0.,
Ala., says this if Tetterine: “I know it
to be a radical cure for tetter, salt rheum
eczema and all kindred diseases of the
skin and scalp. I never prescribe any
thing else in all skin trouble.” 50c at

THE LITTLE SHOES DID IT.
A young man, who had been reclaim
ed from the vice of intemperance, was
called upon to tell how he was led to
give up drinking. He arose, but look
ed for a moment very much confused.
All h e could say was, ‘The little shoes,
they did it.’ With a voice, as if his
heart was in his throat, he kept re
peating this. There was a stare of
perplexity on every face, and, at length,
some young people began to titter. Th e
man, in his embarrassment, heard this
sound and rallied at once, the light
came into his eyes with a flash —he
drew himself up and addressed the
audience; the shaking went from his
throat. Yes, friends, he said in a voice
that cut its way, clear as a deep toned
bell, whatever you may think of it, I
have told you the truth —the little
sh oes did it! I was a brute and a
fool; strong drink had made me both,
and starved m e in the bargain. I suf
sered; I deserved to suffer; but I did
not suffer alone —no man does who has
a wife and child, for the woman gets
the worst share. But lam no speaker
to enlarge upon that; I’ll stick to the
little shoes. I saw one night, when I
was all but done for, the saloon keep
er’s child holding out her feet for her
father to look at her new shoes. It
was a simple thing, friends, but no fist
ever struck me such a blow as these lit
tle shoes did. They kicked reason in
to me. What business had I to clothe
others with finery, and. not provide
even coarse clothes for my own, but
let them go bare? said I, and there
outside was my shivering wife and
blue chilled child, in a bitt e r cold night.
I took hold of my little one with a grip,
and saw her chilled feet! Men! fath
ers! if the little shoes smote me what
must the little feet do? I put them,
cold as ice, to my breast; they pierced
me through. Yes, the little feet walk
ed right into my heart, and away
walked my selfishness. I had a trifle
of money left, I bought a loaf of bread
and then a pair of little shoes. I nev
er tasted anything but a bit of that
bread all Sabbath day, and went to
work like mad on Monday, and from
that day I have spent no more money
at the public house. That is all I
have got to say—it was the little shoes
that did it. —Detroit Free Press.
LIGHT THAT BLINDNESS
COULDN’T AFFECT.
At the close of a Christian endeavor
consecration meeting in India the roll
was being called, and one after an
other was responding. After one name
was called, there was a slight pause,
and amid the silence rose the clear,
sweet tones of a young girl’s .voice:
“The very dimness of my sight
Makes me secure,
For groping in my misty way,
I feel his hand, I hear him say::
‘My help is sure.’ ” ,

mers, Box 576, South Bend, Ind.
The meeting over, the visitor sought
out one of the members, and asked
the reason for the emotion manifested
by the audience at the response giv
en. The following reply was made:
“You may well wonder what touched
us all so much: but you will hardly be
surprised when I tell you. For months
that girl’s sight has been failing, and
a fortnight ago she became totally
blind. This is her first response since
then.” —Elizabeth B. Stansfield.
UNCONSCIOUS KINDNESS.
A young woman who had passed
through deep sorrows said to a friend
one day, in speaking of the comfort
certain persons had given her un
consciously: “I wish some people
knew just how much their faces can
comfort one! I often ride down in the
same street-car with your father, and
it has been such a help to me to sit
next to him. There is something so
good and strong and kind about him;
it has been a comfort just to feel he
was beside me. Sometimes, when I
have been utterly depressed and dis
couraged, he has seemed somehow to
know just the right word to say to
me; but if he did not talk, I just look
ed at his face, and that helped me.
He probably has not the least idea of
it either, for I know him so slightly,
and I do not suppose half realize how
much they are helping or hindering
others!”
There is a great deal of this uncon
scious kindness in the world. Moses
knew not that his face shown. The best
people are not aware of the’r good
ness. Goodness that is aware of it
self has lost much of its charm. Kind
nesses that are done unconsciously
mean the most. —Selected.
AFRICAN BOY PREACHER.
The Christian Observer tells a beau
tiful story which 'illustrates the pos
sibilities of Christian work in Africa.
Dr. William Morrison tells of a com
munity in Africa where he found a
chapel erected by the natives, with a
hoy twelve years old as teacher and
minister. This boy had attended a
Christian mission school for a brief
time, and on being taken to his home
by his parents, began to teach his lit
tle companions how to read by writing
in the sand. The men of the village
gathered around and stated that they
could not allow the boys to learn some
thing that they did not know; so the
HORN OF SALVATION
Is a home remedy which should by
all means be familiar to every mother
and housewife, in fact, no medicine
chest is complete without it. It can be
applied externally as a liniment and
relieves and heals with magical
promptness aches, bruises, neuralgia,
lumbago, eczema, etc., and can be
taken internally for the quick and per
manent rel’ef of dyspepsia, colic, rheu
matism, grip, catarrh, sore throat,
whooping cough, colds, etc. It is best
for ch’ldren because it is pleasant in
taste, and contains no ingredients that
could in the leastwise harm the most
delicate stomach.
Mrs. M. S. Levey, Savannah. Ga.. writes:
“Please tell me where I can buy Horn of
Salvation in Savannah. I do not want to
pass through the winter without it. I
used it while living in Dawson. Ga., and
I think it is the best household remedy I
ever used, especially for Indigestion, Fev
ers, Croup and Colds.’
John W. Morrah, Dealer in General Mer
chandise, Mount Carmel, S. C., says:—“l
enclose herewith four dollars to cover my
account. Please ship me at once, 5 dozen
Horn of Salvation 25-cent size. 1 dozen
Horn of Salvation Salve 25-cent size. I
have a large lot of other liniments on
hand, and I think you should take them
qff my hands, as I have been able to sell
nothing else but Horn of Salvation since
the first bottle was brought in my store.
Horn of Salvation is certainly taking the
day here, as a customer will have nothing
else after he has used it once. Please let
this come out at once, as we have not a
bottle left, and it is useless to try and
substitute any other in its place.”
If your dealer does not keep Horn of
Salvation, send 35c in stamps to Newnan
Medicine Co., Newnan, Ga., for a full size
bottle. You will never afterwards be with
out it.
