The Southern Temperance Society published Motive’s inaugural issue on December 14, 1895 in Atlanta, Georgia. The paper’s editor-in-chief was Frank J. Sibley, the Grand Chief Templar of the International Organization of Good Templars. Dedicated to prohibition, the paper reported on the temperance movement’s progress across the state until ceasing publication in 1898.
